Keeping good workers starts with building jobs worth keeping.
Pay matters. So does having a real path to grow. So does having a voice in how work gets done day to day. When those things are missing, people leave. And the cost of that turnover adds up fast.

in Albuquerque brought together some of the most dedicated workforce leaders in the country. And it showed.
We heard new ideas. We had real conversations about what it takes to make systems work for everyone. We left energized and ready to keep pushing.
Albuquerque is behind us, but the work continues. And we're already looking forward to in Pittsburgh.
If you were there, thank you for showing up and bringing your whole self to it. If you missed it, we hope to see you in Pittsburgh.
Research can tell you what works. Someone still has to make it work.
Will Dorsey-Eden says the real innovation in workforce development isn't happening in reports or white papers. It's happening on the ground, where practitioners are wrestling with the hard, unglamorous questions that determine whether a good idea actually reaches the people it's meant to serve.
That gap between a promising idea and a working program is where so much gets lost. Will is energized to be in community with people taking that seriously.
So are we.

The headline numbers can look encouraging while a lot of workers are still struggling.
Economic Policy Institute's latest jobs analysis shows that hiring rebounded in August. But long-term unemployment kept rising and wage growth continued to slow. Those trends don't cancel each other out. They point to a labor market where the experience varies a lot depending on who you are and where you're starting from.
Workforce systems have a real role to play here. People navigating long stretches out of work need more than a job posting. They need pathways into stable, quality work and systems built to help them get there.
