Cannabis Workers rising is a project of the United Food and Commercial Workers or UFCW.

Through crafting and supporting targeted legislative efforts, leading the way in industry coalitions and setting standards for cannabis workers through collective bargaining, Cannabis Workers Rising is where dispensary workers and owners, along with patients and coalition allies, find strength in working for their shared goals.

& to close out the night, union members of Catalyst’s Bellflower Distribution delivered a petition to their management regarding collective concern and joint priority for improved safety and security as it relates to their working conditions and clarity surrounding job security.

We are demanding communication and clarity surrounding receiving the appropriate tools and equipment to perform their jobs, improving safety protocol for drivers on the road, and flagging a needed discussion around the job security for multiple positions.

The petition has an overwhelming supermajority of support and signals that we are serious about standing together for a better union contract and a better quality of life moving forward.

What a way to take action on Labor Day! Send allllllll the power to these workers for standing up!

Congratulations to the UFCW’s newest cannabis members from Key Cannabis Dispensary!

This week, UFCW Local 2 announced the ratification of a first collective bargaining agreement at Key Cannabis Dispensary in Springfield, MO, which will bring significant wage increases, bonuses, and additional time off to workers.

Sally Powell, a retail associate at Key Cannabis Dispensary, said, “We have been fighting for our first contract for a long time. This contract secures wage increases and bonuses that we all deserve. It also prints additional protections we didn’t have before, like stability in scheduling and very strong non-discrimination guarantees. I’m so proud of our resilience, and I hope our win shows cannabis workers across Missouri that when we stand together, there’s nothing we can’t do. With our union, we have the comfort and security of not being at-will employees, and with this contract, we’ve made our voices heard and negotiated the benefits we need to thrive on the job.”

The newly ratified contract secures wage increases and bonuses for Key Cannabis workers, with an additional wage increase upon the first anniversary of the contract. It also includes new bonus and incentive programs for workers, along with additional paid time-off, sick time-off, and paid bereavement leave. The contract, which had overwhelming worker support, also guarantees stronger non-discrimination, anti-harassment, and inclusion protections; more stable scheduling; and clearer disciplinary guidelines.
