A potassium chloride crystal was grown aboard the International Space Station, where microgravity enables it to form in stepped, hollow layers instead of the solid shapes seen on Earth.
With experiments from Astronaut Don Pettit , the outer edges and corners grow at faster rates than the flat faces,That reduction in gravity’s tug has profound impacts on the human body. This completely changes how liquids and crystals behave as well.
“forces start to become far more pronounced than gravity forces,” Wilson said, pointing to molecular attraction and polarity.

NASA selected 3 Companies to fly four robotic lunar lander missions worth nearly $600M
Astrobotic received awards for two flights of its Peregrine lander, with a total value of $297.9 million. Firefly received an award for its Blue Ghost lander worth $144.2 million. Intuitive Machines won an order for its Nova-C lander worth $148.3 million.
Each lander will carry an identical set of three payloads. Stereo Camera for Lunar Plume Surface Studies, or SCALPSS, uses cameras to study the plume of regolith created by the exhaust of the lander’s engines.

We had a great time at NSS International Space Development Conference (ISDC26) last week.
From the youth dreaming big to Network Receptions, Apollo Astronauts and Silent Auction, we’re glad to volunteer with NSS DC L5 and to lend our minds to advance science and exploration.
So inspiring to see hundreds at ISDC 2026 to help explore humanity’s future in space. Huge thank you to the organizers with NSS, speakers, and attendees.
