It was wonderful to welcome Catherine Wu (BSFS Class of 2026) back to the Japanese Table! A May graduate, Catherine will be heading to Korea next year to teach English. She also brought delicious treats to share with us! Wishing her all the best on her next adventure!

Alumni Spotlight in Tokyo! 🇯🇵 We received a wonderful update from Georgetown alum Pauline Bu! Pauline relocated to Japan earlier this year and has opened her own art space, Shoyodo (相羊堂), in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo! 🎉

She would love to welcome Georgetown students studying abroad in Japan, alumni and friends living or working in Tokyo, and anyone traveling to Tokyo!

Shoyodo currently has a fall exhibition on view through October 8, so if you are in Tokyo, please stop by and check it out! ✨

Congratulations, Pauline! We are so happy to see our alumni doing exciting things in Japan! 💙 Shoyodo Gallery ギャラリー相羊堂

We had a wonderful evening at the “US-Japan Summer Party – Celebrating 250 Years” at the National Museum of Asian Art, hosted by the Japan-America Society of Washington, DC and Mitsubishi Corporation! 🇯🇵🇺🇸 The event was held in the beautiful museum garden, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather! 🌿☀️

We were especially happy to run into Nishida-sensei, our First Level Japanese TA! Omori-sensei hasn’t had much opportunity to get to know her yet, so it was great to have some time to chat outside of Georgetown. 😊 We also enjoyed seeing many fellow Japanese language teachers from the DMV area and members of the Embassy of Japan. We even had a chance to explore some of the museum exhibits while we were there!

Such a lovely evening filled with good conversations, beautiful surroundings, and connections within our Japanese language community! ❤️🇯🇵 Japan-America Society (DC) Embassy of Japan in the USA 🌸

We’re thrilled to see such a great turnout at yesterday’s Japanese Language Table, as always! There wasn’t enough seating in the ICC Galleria, so we ended up chatting while standing—which made it feel more like a lively reception party!

Thank you for joining us and bringing such great energy. We look forward to seeing you again next time!

We attended a Reception for Former Participants and Contributors to People-to-People Exchange Programs between Japan and the U.S. at the residence of Ambassador Yamada. 🇯🇵🇺🇸 Some of our Japanese graduate students from MASIA and MSFS were also invited! The best part of the reception (well, besides the feast of delicious Japanese food 😆) was reuniting with some of our former students!

This year, I ran into Kathryn-san, who just returned to the U.S. after spending 3 years at Kobe University as a MEXT scholar. We had no idea she was going to be there, so it was such a nice surprise! She is now training for her new assignment as a U.S. diplomat! 🇺🇸 We also got to see John-san, who is now a Senior Program Officer at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, and Sasha-san, who works as a Program and Administrative Assistant at the Japan-America Society of Washington DC. It was so nice to see everyone and catch up! We always love seeing our former students and hearing about all the interesting things they are doing. 🥰

Such a fun evening, and we are very thankful to the Embassy of Japan for including us again this year! 🇯🇵❤️🇺🇸

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Japanese Language Table yesterday! 🇯🇵✨ We had another great turnout this week! It was wonderful to see students from different Japanese classes, including our First Level students, enjoying conversations together. 😊

We were also happy to have Ōya-sensei, a visiting scholar from Meiji University, his wife, and their friend join us this week. Thank you for joining us! ❤️
