The temperature doesn't tell the whole story.
The heat index combines temperature and humidity to show how hot conditions actually feel to the body. During the summer months, prolonged exposure to high heat index levels can increase the risk of heat stress, heat exhaustion and heat-related illness.
During hot months, use the heat index to help determine when additional precautions, such as water, shade and rest breaks, may be needed to protect workers.
Know the risk. Take action. Stay safe.

Art meets agriculture in Harvesting Dreams/Cosechando Sueños, a powerful portrait exhibit that shines a light on the people behind our food system.
Created by photographer José Luis Aguirre, the exhibit captures the stories, aspirations and contributions of farmworkers throughout San Mateo County, helping visitors connect with the individuals whose work helps feed our communities. Puente de la Costa Sur (PUENTE)
We're especially proud that two of EFI's 2026 Farmworker of the Year nominees are featured in the exhibit: Margarito Gomez and finalist Rogelio Nabor. Their inclusion reflects the leadership, dedication and impact farmworkers have both in the field and beyond.
Because behind every harvest is a person, a story and a dream worth celebrating.
