Ready to explore the treetops and grow your skills? Casey Trees, Montgomery Parks, and Bartlett Tree Experts are excited to announce our third annual Tree Climbing Academy, taking place November 2-6 in Wheaton Regional Park! 🌳 🥾

During this week-long training, you’ll learn from experienced instructors how to climb safely and confidently, with hands-on instruction in ropes and knots, climbing saddles and equipment, and current industry best practices. Upon completion, participants will earn a certificate and $500.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and interested in joining or advancing their career in the tree care industry.

This week, our team at the Casey Tree Farm shipped over 400 trees from Berryville to DC, where they'll be planted at homes across the city in our first round of residential plantings for the fall season. Providing shade, beauty, and ecosystem benefits for years to come, we wish these trees all the best for their fresh start in the District. 🌳

DC residents—visit Casey Trees at the DC State Fair this Sunday, September 6, to snag your very own serviceberry tree!

A fan favorite for humans and pollinators alike, the serviceberry is a beloved native tree popular for its beautiful foliage and delicious, edible berries, as well as its adaptability and resilience in tough urban landscapes. Learn more about this truly sweet tree at caseytrees.org/serviceberry. 🍒

These trees will come in one-gallon containers, making them easy to carry around the State Fair before traveling home to plant your new tree. And don’t worry—we'll provide information on how to plant and care for your leafy friend! 🌱

We’ll be giving away 100 trees to DC residents on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to get there before they’re gone. We’ll see you there!

Don’t let the calendar fool you — we’re still in the thick of summer heat. 🌡️

Even though fall is right around the corner, this week’s temperatures are reaching highs of 95° F. Combined with little rain in the forecast, this is your reminder that young trees need to be watered! 💧

Trees planted in the last three years need about 10-25 gallons of water a week, depending on their size, to establish and endure the DMV’s scorching temps. Water slowly and deeply once a week, preferably early in the morning or at night, to avoid evaporation during the hottest hours of the day.

This summer, you’ll find more than just trees growing at Casey Tree Farm, which operates as the DC State Nursery for the District Department of Transportation. Look closely, and you’ll also see sunflowers, daikon radish, legumes, and other cover crops rebuilding our soil between growing seasons. 🌻
