“You know your community best. You are the people turning possibility into progress.”
That message from NeighborWorks America Chief Operating Officer Lee Anne Adams closed out a powerful week of learning and connection at the Investing in Rural America Conference in Asheville, North Carolina.
Lee Anne highlighted what we see across the NeighborWorks network: When local leadership is backed by strong partnerships and sustained investment, rural communities create lasting change.
Nearly four out of five NeighborWorks network organizations serve rural communities. We’re proud to learn from and partner with the rural and Native leaders building stronger communities and greater opportunity every day.
One spark can ignite lasting change. ✨

There is a difference between holding an event in a community and allowing that community to become part of the event.
As we prepare to bring the NeighborWorks Training Institute to Puerto Rico, we started by listening to the people already doing the work there. What are they seeing? What are they solving? And what can the rest of us learn from them?
That spirit is behind From Here, for Everyone. De Aquí, Pa’l Mundo.
Puerto Rico is the destination. It is also part of the lesson.

What started as an alleyway is now a vibrant space for connection, creativity, and community.
At NHS Greater New Britain, housing and art come together to create stronger neighborhoods and a greater sense of belonging. Through NHS Gallery 66, local artists and residents celebrate creativity, build relationships, and strengthen community.
Inspired by a vision to transform a brick wall into something more, Curator Adrian Elliott imagined a mural that would bring new energy to the neighborhood. “I thought about the impact a mural could have on the community,” she shared. “It would help in keeping the area clean, keeping people excited about the neighborhood and solidifying the gallery as a destination for visitors, too.”
The mural has done all of that and more.

Day 2 in Asheville, and NeighborWorks® America is driving meaningful conversations and building valuable connections.
Rural Initiative Senior Director Sarah Kackar moderated a plenary panel, Community Investment: Sustaining Growth in Our Small Towns, at the ongoing Investing in Rural America Conference.
Small towns are the backbone of rural America, and sustaining their growth requires innovation, collaboration, and strategic investment. During the session, Sarah highlighted how communities are adapting to change, strengthening local capacity, and positioning themselves to attract and absorb capital for long-term growth and resilience.
The conference organized by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) brought together about 700 participants across affordable housing, finance, education and health.

Monica spent years living in the home where she grew up, an older house she inherited from her parents. But the home was far from energy efficient, and her monthly utility bills reflected it.
To keep her home cooled, she relied on air conditioning units in each bedroom window.
Monica had never heard the term “passive home” until she began exploring the possibility of buying one. After connecting with NeighborGood Partners, the
NeighborWorks® network organization that developed Delaware’s first passive homes, the benefits quickly became clear.
Today, Monica’s home is healthier, more comfortable and significantly more energy efficient—providing a better quality of life while helping her save on energy costs.
