Opera Lafayette
The Nation’s Period Opera Company
Opera Lafayette, established in 1995 in Washington DC, rediscovers early music masterpieces and reawakens lost operas for diverse, multi-generational audiences.
A glimpse into Opera Lafayette’s history, and a hint of what’s to come.
In October 2014, during our 20th anniversary season, Opera Lafayette presented the first modern staged performance of Rameau’s Les Fêtes de l'Hymen et de l'Amour. Led by Artistic Director Ryan Brown, the production brought together an international cast of singers, the Opera Lafayette Orchestra, and three dance companies for an extraordinary revival of Rameau’s music.
This season, we return to Rameau with another rediscovery: the fully staged modern world premiere of Les Surprises de l’Amour, restoring the collaboration of Madame de Pompadour and Rameau to the stage for the first time since 1748.
Then and now, Rameau continues to surprise.
