Del Rey Medico

Late post. We spent the weekend in Sewickley, part of the Mission Partners tent at the annual Day on the Lawn. This is a yard sale on steroids and all the proceeds go to mission. It was great to reconnect with our former church. And to tell folks about Del Rey Medico.

Del Rey Medico is planning a Vision Trip to Dominican Republic over Jan 17-20, 2027. This will not be your typical mission trip. The purpose of this trip is to explore the possibility of longer-term engagement with our ministry. More information is on our website drmedico.org.

Happy Easter everyone. Now it is time to continue the work of resurrection!!

We just completed two trips to Dominican Republic. From February 14 to 21, we served with Del Rey Ministries and groups from five churches. We held health education expos in four different bateys (sugarcane villages). People had the opportunity to learn about dental care, women's health, and children's health. We also did blood pressure and blood sugar screenings and taught about the importance of diet and exercise in managing hypertension and diabetes.

From March 1 to 6, we served with a group of students from St Vincent College. These were all students planning to pursue further education in health-related areas. The students visited the clinics and accompanied our doctors on some home visits. It was an opportunity for them to see how we deliver health care in a developing country.

We are heading home today. Had a great 4 days with our DR staff and the students from St Vincent College.

We received a lovely thank you note from the students. Tomorrow is their fun day at the beach, and we head back home.

We went to Batey Margarita today to see Dr Yasquina’s clinic. We made some home visits, visited the school, then lots of time to play with the children.

Today we took the second group of students to Dr Gavina’s clinic in Consuelo. Wednesday is when Gavina and her nurse, Wanda, make home visits. The students were privileged to be invited into the homes of several patients. Muchas gracias to Gavina and Wanda for allowing these students to observe their work.
