These two came all the way from Texas to celebrate their love in front of my lens. 🖤 It’s hard for me to even put into words what that kind of trust means to me.

At some point during my directing, the bride noted that I have a special eye, that I was seeing things that she didn’t see.

I’ve been thinking about that the last few days. I don’t think it’s anything extraordinary about me. It’s a trait most every creative has. But it is something special. It’s the art of seeing. Of being able to pause. To notice things like wind rustling through hair, a trembling lip, the way the sun glitters gold in the fleck of an eye.

We are all born with art inside of us. But so much of seeing is learned, just by doing the thing over and over and over. Training yourself to understand light and texture and how to harness a feeling, to corral it and steer it.

It’s Relic’s birthday month. Which means this is 16 years of taking note. I’m honored to still be here, seeing all of the ingredients, feeling them, combining them into something beautiful that I get to pass on to my little corner of the world.

I really can’t wait to show you all this set. It’s going to be really incredible. But for now, here are a handful of the first edits of what I saw: veil edition.

Noelle is standing on the edge of fall. At the edge of childhood. Her toes are curled around the precipice, she’s ready to jump into the rest of her life. Her mother is beautiful and stays for the session. She watches her child. And I watch her.

She is storing up the treasure of these moments in her heart. She is walking the floor of this tundra, with joy and pain, reveling in her little girl turned grown woman, and at the same time willing her hands to unclench and let go. She does it beautifully, there is peace in her smile and pride in her glittering eyes. I know the look, I understand it. I’m in the season of letting go myself, of loving with open hands.

Congratulations to Noelle, class of 2027. And to her mama, whose love will follow her forever.

Can you believe it’s already the end of September? Alaska is about to trade autumn gold for winter white…and honestly, I’m ready for this kind of magic again. ✨❄️

I first met Keslynn when I photographed her as a 2016 high school senior. I remember the session because it turned out to be a favorite set I absolutely loved. It was vintage inspired, and she reminded me of a porcelain doll. I was new to senior photography and so proud of that session.

So imagine my surprise, a decade later, when my phone rang and she asked me to photograph her wedding. Um, YES! There is something extra special about following the lives of my clients. This month marks 16 years of owning Relic. Some of you have followed along that entire time. I’ve photographed children that have gone on to grow up, get married, and start their own families. What an privilege to be part of so many stories and such beauty! The honor is not lost on me.

Frank and Keslynn are seriously perfect for one another. I was completely starry-eyed over their connection. They had a very simplistic backyard wedding and I was not surprised at how beautifully it came together, knowing Keslynn and her unique style. It was a small gathering of family and friends, who were the kindest and most welcoming group of people ever! My heart was continually melting the entire time I photographed this event. So much love, in all the ways. Here are a few of my favorite photos, including a throwback senior photo, where it all began.

Keslynn and Frank, thank you for choosing me…again. I wish you all the happiness and love your hearts can handle!
