HAPPY NATIONAL NEWS ENGAGEMENT DAY 🗞️
-
Today is a national holiday meant to encourage everyone to consume, discuss and engage with the news. Today, we invited West High school to do just that!
-
All day, students visited Wahawk Insider and submitted their name to be entered to win a prize. At lunch, Wahawk Insider editors and reporters talked with students about stories that matter to them.
-
Wahawk Insider Co-Editor-in-Chief Mackenzie Johnson organized the News Engagement Day event this year. "Journalism is dying, and it is more important than ever to keep it alive. That is why I believe doing activities like this on News Engagement Day and actively getting students involved can make a difference. Teaching students about getting immersed in journalism and helping them develop the habit of staying informed about current events is incredibly important. Everyone should make an effort to engage with the news and understand what is happening in the world around them," she said.
-
We encourage you all to continue to engage with the news as it is also National Newspaper week! "Students should definitely go check out the work being published by their fellow Wahawks on Wahawk Insider," said Johnson.

Our West High journalism program needs YOUR support! Every day we work hard to tell the stories of West High. Over the last few years, our team has earned national recognition and documented unforgettable moments as we approach our final years before Waterloo United. We truly couldn’t do any of this without our amazing community!

Producing great, high-quality journalism takes real resources. Every dollar raised goes directly to upgrading essential camera gear, funding publication platforms, printing our NewsMagazines, keeping, and sending students to hands-on workshops!

If you’re able to back our student journalists, we would be beyond grateful! Click the link below to make a (2026 tax-deductible) donation. Even taking a moment to share this post helps us reach more supporters. Thank you for investing in West High and the future of journalism!
