🦌 Back Forty Fact
Whitetail bucks often increase rubbing activity in early fall as testosterone levels rise and their neck muscles begin to swell. Rubs aren’t just about removing velvet—they can also leave visual and scent signals that other deer recognize.
Finding several fresh rubs in the same area can be a good clue that a buck is spending time nearby.

Back Forty Fact
Ever wonder why young bucks seem to disappear?
As a buck fawn gets older, he’ll often leave the area where he was raised. His mother may become less tolerant of him, helping encourage him to move on and establish his own home range.
This natural behavior, called buck dispersal, helps reduce the chances of him breeding with close relatives. Meanwhile, doe fawns are much more likely to stay close to where they were born.
So that young buck that vanished from your cameras might not be gone for no reason—he could just be finding his own ground
