The Community Cat Connection is excited to participate once again in this yearly fundraiser (Scarecrows for Solutions) at Bemis Farms Nursery in Spencer. The event will be held on weekends from Saturday, September 19th through Sunday, October 18 from 10:00 to 4:00

Build a cute Scarecrow- in- a - Pot planter with your family and join in for a memorable day of pumpkin picking, children's fall activities, and community support! What a great way to spend a fall afternoon.

Happy Forever Friday! This week we have a nice update about one of our handsome guys adopted earlier this year- Chip! He came to us as an owner surrender and was only at the shelter for about a month before finding his forever home. Read on for the quick but sweet update on this lovely gentleman, and enjoy the pictures from his grooming session this week- what a cutie! 🥰

“Chip is doing fantastic. He's very talkative and is a little fatty now. I attached some photos. I love him so so much! He's so very handsome that I'm gonna start to get him groomed every few months. He likes being brushed and even tolerates being washed/trimmed every so often. It's hard because his hair gets matted if not kept up so he deserves the best treatment! He is very handsome after his grooming today. He almost looks like one of the pumpkins 🎃”

A gentle reminder about what animal rescue really looks like. ❤️
Sometimes we get calls that are simply, “Come get this animal.”

A cat showed up? “Come get it.
There are kittens under the shed? “Come get them.”

We understand that finding an animal you weren’t expecting can feel overwhelming. And we’re not judging anyone for needing help. But rescue takes more than simply removing an animal from a situation.

Whenever possible, we need people to be willing to help with the process, too — whether that means fostering, helping with trapping, providing a little time, sharing a post, or simply asking, “What can I do to help?”

Rescue is not pest control, and we aren’t a free removal service whenever an animal becomes inconvenient.

If you’ve found an animal and genuinely want to help, please reach out. We can often help you figure out the safest and most appropriate next step. But that process can take time, patience, and cooperation — things that aren’t always easy to give.

We’re happy to help when we can. ❤️

We just ask that you remember: rescue works best when we work together. If the only thing being offered is “come get it,” the responsibility isn’t really being shared — the inconvenience is simply being passed along.

Happy Monday! We have a bunch of new kitties for you, including a few bonded pairs, kittens, and adult cats! We also had Percy, Coconut, Fern, Lucy & Thumper, and Auri & Ferrari go home this week! Excitingly, Fennick and Otto are on deposit.

New kitties include: Donny & Mongo, Piglet & Rabbit (yes, the same ones that were adopted a while ago), Gibby, Penny, and kittens Gin, Paprika, Saffron, Rosemary, Peppercorn & Nutmeg. Peppercorn & Nutmeg would love to find a home together, as would Donny & Mongo, and Piglet & Rabbit.

Come down to meet all our wonderful cats and kittens for adoption, and you may find your new best furriend! We are open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4-7 and Saturday from 10-1!

Update: Fennick was adopted this week!!! We hope for nothing but love and comfort for the rest of his life ❤️

Adoption Re-Spotlight: Fantastic Fennick!

We shared this handsome boy a while ago but unfortunately he has had no interest since returning to our shelter in June. If you remember, he has been adopted and returned… twice. He was adopted once as a kitten almost ten years ago, and was returned due to allergies. He was then adopted again in 2020 and was returned again this year for unknown reasons. He is very sad and shut down, and we would really love to find him a forever home, for good this time.

He has recently moved to the shy room, where he seems to be somewhat happier to be around other calm, shy cats, but he is not as comfortable as he could be in a home. We’d really love to see him happy again, where he can relax and be cherished for the sweet boy he is underneath the scared and sad exterior.

He likes other cats, but we don’t know about dogs. Since he is very shy, we don’t think he would like to live with young children, but would likely be fine with older, respectful children. Could your home be the forever fit he’s been looking for?? If you think so, come down and give this sweet boy a chance.

Happy Monday, and happy Labor Day! This week we had several adoptions and a few kitties are on deposit. Cheeto, Moonstone, Wh***ey, Cody, Noah, and Cricket all went home this past week, and we hope for the best for all of them! Lucy & Thumper are on deposit, as well as Auri & Ferrari.

We also have LOTS of new kitties available! Many are kittens, including Pebbles, Bentley, Otto, Hershey, Diana, Percy, Drake, River, Pork Chop, Cookie, Potato & Butterscotch, and Mustang. Adult cats available are: Ruby, Cleo, Margot, and Henrietta. We don’t have pictures of Margot on file but are working on updating all the missing photos!

We would love to see our kittens go in pairs or to homes with a friendly, playful cat or dog already in the home, to reduce the chances of single kitten syndrome. This is a very real thing and is sometimes a cause for kittens to come back to us or to be rehomed due to destructive behaviors. The best thing to do is to adopt more than one!! Having kittens in pairs makes them happier, it gives them more stimulation and companionship and improves their social skills. Adoption Spotlight: lovely Lucy and terrific Thumper!

These two bonded cuties came to us initially as a courtesy post for an owner surrender but they weren’t able to find a new home before they needed to come to the shelter. They are VERY sweet and loving, they enjoy playtime, cuddles, and pets, and would do well in many different homes. They lived with other cats previously, but we don’t know for sure if they have experience with kids or dogs.

Come down and meet these sweetie pies and perhaps give them a chance to be part of your family!! They can be seen anytime during open hours, which are each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4-7 and Saturdays from 10-1!
