Summer is here and the lawns are starting to stress. Keep your mowing height high, water deep & infrequently and never in the evening, make sure those mower blades are sharp, and avoid high nitrogen fertilizers. Humic acid is a great choice to apply in the summer. It helps reduce the stress on your lawn. Let us know if we can help. TheShowcaseLawn.com

Feels like Summer is having an identity crisis, this weather is amazing. Rest assured the heat will return, and with it humidity. If you’re seeing brown spots or patches, it’s likely a fungus. Get a fungicide and cure it. If you need help, we’re here for you. TheShowcaseLawn.com

If you’re finding brown spots in your lawn, and the grass blades look like this, then you have a fungus. You can’t control the weather, but you can control your irrigation system. Focus your watering early in the morning 4:00-8:00am A fungicide will help too. Let us know if you want to add this application to your program. TheShowcaseLawn.com

As the temperatures rise, so should your mowing height.
A raised mowing height during higher temperatures helps
-Shade the soil, keeping it cooler
-Holds moisture longer
-Reduces heat stress

Last week’s weather was a bit of a reprieve from the previous week, but we’re looking at rain the next couple days, and mid to upper 90°’s next week. This means an increased chance of fungus.
How do you know if you have a fungus?
Small brown patches in your lawn, with tan to dark brown spots on the blades of grass. What can be done?
Applying a preventative in advance is the best practice, in lieu of that use a curative. Let us know if we can help.

Two things that can menace your lawn this time of year, grub worms and fungus. Do your best to be prepared for each of them. Water in the early morning, never past 8:00am, or at night. That will help with fungus. As for grubs, it’s getting late for a preventative, put something down, use a curative if you get them, or plan on aerating & seeding this Fall. More information will come on that later. As always, we’re here if you need us. TheShowcaseLawn.com.

The humidity has arrived, and with it comes fungus, also known as Brown Patch and Dollar Spot. They appear when the nights are cool and the days hot. They can kill entire areas of a lawn. What can be done?
-Don’t water at night
-Try not to water past 8:00am
-Reduce nitrogen application
-Promote air circulation over your lawn by trimming up lower branches of trees
-Apply a fungicide as a preventative, or a curative if you already have a fungus

This week we started applying our Bee Friendly grub control. Grub worms can do extensive, costly damage to your lawn. The most effective way to mitigate that is by applying an insecticide. However, unfortunately bees are insects, and susceptible to most insecticides. We use a “Bee Friendly” product, and have for several years now. Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem, and worth protecting. If you have questions, let us know TheShowcaseLawn.com

The temperatures are rising, and the rains are getting less frequent. Is your lawn getting enough water? Here are some helpful tips.
-A lawn needs 1”-1 1/2” of water per week. -Deep and infrequent waterings are the best, twos day on, and a day or two off, then water again.
- A standard irrigation system should deliver an inch per hour.
-Try to be finished before 7:00am

We’ve been getting plenty of rain, but that could change soon. If you have an irrigation system, now is the time to get it ready. Plus the water company is going to want that back flow test sent in. Let us know if we can help.
