𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗔 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝟯 𝗩𝗪𝗗? 🩸

Researchers are studying whether emicizumab, currently used to prevent bleeding in people with hemophilia A, could also help prevent bleeds in people with Type 3 von Willebrand disease (VWD).

The Phase III WILL-EMI study is evaluating the efficacy and safety of emicizumab prophylaxis in Type 3 VWD, the rarest and most severe form of the condition.

The study is ongoing, but it raises an important question: Could therapies developed for one bleeding disorder help advance care for another?

For people with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, pain may be associated with an acute bleed or develop over time from repeated bleeding into joints and muscles.

This September during Pain Awareness Month, it’s an important reminder to talk with your care team about new, changing, or ongoing pain. Understanding what’s causing it can help guide treatment, protect joint health, and support your quality of life.

Pain is information. Make it part of the conversation with your bleeding disorders care team.

Hemophilia A and B may be among the most recognized bleeding disorders, but they’re only part of the picture. Von Willebrand disease, rare factor deficiencies, inherited platelet disorders, and acquired bleeding disorders can each affect the body’s ability to control bleeding—and each can require a highly individualized approach to care.

For some patients, that means lifelong prophylaxis and bleed prevention. For others, it may mean securing a difficult-to-source therapy or responding quickly when an acquired disorder appears unexpectedly.

Hepatitis C is now curable in more than 95% of cases with modern direct-acting antiviral treatment—but many people remain untreated.
