“Why are my brakes squeaking and shaking the whole car when I stop?”

This customer came to us recently because when she would hit the brakes to slow down or stop there was a horrible squealing noise and her entire steering wheel would shake back and forth. Once she let off the brake, the noise and shaking would go away.

One of our Technicians took a ride with the customer to verify the noise and it was clear that we would need to take a look at the brakes. We quickly found that the brake pads were worn out and the brake rotors had some rust and rot forming that was causing the shaking.

We replaced the brakes with a ceramic brake pad that helps dissipate heat a lot better than the original pads, which will help the brakes last longer and stay quiet. Then we replaced the brake rotors. We like to use a coated rotor, which simply means that the rotor has a gray protective coating on it that prevents the rotor from rotting away over the years.

These brakes now work well and will last for many years to come.

The customer was able to take advantage of our Online Scheduling and used our 0% For 90 Days Payment Plan. They were in and out before lunchtime.

“Why is my car leaking oil? ChatGPT said I need an engine.”

This new customer came into our West Springfield shop concerned that they were seeing spots of oil on the ground in their driveway and a burning smell. But when they checked their engine oil it was always full.

After doing some research online they were convinced they needed a new engine. Luckily for them, ChatGPT was wrong.

Once we put the vehicle in the air for an inspection, the answer was easy to see. A seal on their front differential had started to fail.

A differential houses the gears that turn axles that turn the wheels when you drive. Those gears need oil to keep them lubricated. The seals keep the oil inside the differential housing, pictured above.

The repair was basic. We replaced the faulty seal and replaced the fluid. The total repair only took a few hours and the customer was able to take advantage of our 90 Day 0% Auto Repair Payment Plan by applying online on our website.

“Why won’t my car start?”

This new customer came in concerned that their car won’t start. They were at a local shop that replaced the starter twice, but the car still wouldn’t start. So they towed it over to us.

The issue was a worn out shifter bushing. This allowed the customer to put the car in park, but the play in the bushing wouldn’t let the transmission go fully into Park. Since the computer didn’t register that the car was in park, it prevented the vehicle from starting. Sort of like shutting the car off with the transmission in reverse gear.

Fortunately the repair was a simple one and the customer was back on the road within a few hours and they were able to take advantage of our 90 Day 0% payment option.

"Why does my Oil come out black but goes in golden?"

A lot of people only ever see the old oil during an oil change, so they assume oil is always supposed to look black, but fresh oil actually starts out a clear golden or amber color. Over time, that oil moves through your engine and begins picking up heat, dirt, carbon, and all the byproducts that come from normal engine operation.

That darker color does not always mean something is wrong right away. In many cases, it means the oil is doing its job by helping carry away contamination and keep internal engine parts lubricated. When oil is left in too long, it can start to break down and lose the ability to protect your engine the way it should.

That is why regular oil changes matter. Clean oil helps reduce wear, manage heat, and keep your engine running smoother for longer.

At Precision Auto Repair, every oil change also includes a digital inspection so you can see how your vehicle is doing beyond just the oil. We like giving you the full picture, not just checking a box and sending you on your way.

Have you ever seen brand new oil before?

"Why do my wipers make it harder to see when it rains?"

Spring rain can be frustrating enough without worn out wiper blades making it harder to see. If your wipers are skipping, streaking, squeaking, or leaving parts of the windshield untouched, it may be time for a replacement.

A lot of drivers do not realize that not every set of wipers fits every vehicle the same way. Getting the right size and right fit matters if you want clear visibility and safe driving in rainy weather.

At Precision Auto Repair in West Springfield, MA, we can help you find the right wiper blades for your car and install them so you are ready for spring driving.

If your wipers are not doing their job, stop by or book online today.

When was your last oil change?

A dirty, clogged oil filter cannot protect your engine the way it should. That is why your oil filter should be changed with every oil change, not left in place too long.

A clean filter helps keep dirt, sludge, and debris out of your oil so your engine can stay better protected over time.
