A Jeffco Charter School Guided by the Core Principles of Public Waldorf Education

Mountain Phoenix Community School (MPCS) is a Jefferson County public charter school that offers a curriculum guided by the Core Principles of Public Waldorf Education. Rich in the arts, music, experiential learning, and scientific inquiry, Mountain Phoenix’s educational approach is making a difference — allowing children to experience the expansive, imaginative joys of childhood, while inspiring them to become creative thinkers who can solve tomorrow’s problems. Students emerge from MPCS with a mastery of skills in alignment with state standards and a lifelong love of learning.

Through something as simple as jumping rope, our first graders bring body and brain together, strengthening rhythm, balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and concentration.

In Waldorf education, movement isn’t separate from learning. It’s part of it.

Our Self-Study with the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education continues, and this week we’re exploring the second principles at the heart of Public Waldorf education.

Principle 2 | Phases of Child Development

Childhood unfolds in stages and education should, too.

Public Waldorf education recognizes that human development proceeds in approximate seven-year phases, each with characteristic physical, emotional, and cognitive dimensions.

With this understanding, we thoughtfully align what children learn, how they learn it, and when they encounter it with each stage of development.

Last Friday, our community came together and created something truly beautiful.

Our students ran their hearts out while parents, family members, teachers, staff, and directors lined the course cheering our kids on.

And together, we’ve already raised more than $43,000 — and we’re still going! We have 9 days left to reach our schoolwide goal. These funds flow right back into the life of our school helping us care for our campus, support our teachers, deepen their training, and continue creating a rich and meaningful education for our children.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. We appreciate you.

As MPCS begins our Self-Study with the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education, we’re inviting our community to explore the seven principles at the heart of Public Waldorf education alongside us.

PRINCIPLE 1 | Image of the Human Being

Every child is more than a student. Waldorf education recognizes the whole child - head, heart, and hands - and considers the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of the child throughout their educational journey.

At Mountain Phoenix, this principle asks us to reflect: How are we meeting the whole child in the work we do every day?

Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue exploring each principle and what it means for who we are and who we are becoming as a school.

7 Principles. One Community. Our Next Chapter.

Learning comes to life when children have the opportunity to experience it.

Through purposeful, hands-on learning, our students build confidence, deepen understanding, think critically, create boldly, and connect meaningfully with the world around them.

Head. Heart. Hands. Learning for life.

Happy long weekend.

We wish for you a relaxing time in nature with your family.

Fun Run is one of MPCS’s biggest fundraisers of the year, helping provide essential funding for teacher education, the arts, capital improvements and so much more.

Our kiddos will RUN, RUN, RUN at Fruitdale Park as we work together toward our $55,000 goal! And when a class reaches its fundraising goal, $400 goes directly into their class account for trips, celebrations, or special projects.
