🔍 Not Every Battery Problem Is a Bad Battery!

We recently had a truck come in with a battery that kept going dead. The problem wasn’t the battery or alternator—it was something much deeper in the electrical system.

After performing a parasitic draw test, we found the truck’s CAN bus network wasn’t going to sleep like it should. That meant modules were staying awake and continuing to use power long after the truck was shut off.

Using our diagnostic equipment, we monitored the battery draw and started isolating circuits and individual modules on the CAN network. We eventually traced the problem to the steering column control module keeping the network active when it should have been shutting down.

Electrical problems like this can be tricky. Replacing parts based on a guess can get expensive quickly. Sometimes the most important tool in the shop isn’t a wrench—it’s knowing how to test the system and follow the evidence.

At Bachman Auto Service & Repair, we believe in testing before replacing. 🔧⚡

Tech tip Tuesday

😳 This Is NOT Where Your Track Bar Is Supposed to Be!
This vehicle came into Bachman Auto with a serious front-end problem. During inspection, we found that the track bar mount had completely broken off the front differential/axle housing.
The track bar plays a major role in keeping the front axle properly located underneath the vehicle. When a mounting point breaks like this, it can allow significant side-to-side movement of the axle, causing poor handling, steering instability, clunking, and a major safety concern.
This is a great example of why unusual clunks, loose steering, wandering, or changes in how your vehicle handles shouldn't be ignored.
🔧 Strange noise?
🛞 Steering doesn't feel right?
🚙 Vehicle wandering down the road?
Have it inspected before a small problem becomes a much bigger—or more dangerous—one.

⚙️ When a Small Failure Turns Into a Big Repair
This engine came into the shop with a failed VVT (Variable Valve Timing) actuator.
Take a close look at the circled area. 👀 The VVT actuator has physically broken, which can affect the engine's ability to properly control camshaft timing.
The VVT system constantly adjusts valve timing while the engine is running to help provide the right balance of power, fuel economy, and smooth operation. When an actuator starts to fail, you may notice:
🔧 Check Engine Light
🔧 Rattling or knocking noises, especially at startup
🔧 Rough running or poor performance
🔧 Camshaft timing-related trouble codes
In this case, getting to the failed component requires significant disassembly of the engine's timing system—which is why diagnosing the problem correctly before replacing parts is so important.
At Bachman Auto Service & Repair, we believe in showing you what we find. Photos and videos like these are included in our Digital Vehicle Inspections so you can actually see the problem and understand the repair.

🔧 We’re Back — and Better Than Before!

If you noticed our doors were closed last week, there was a good reason! Our entire Bachman Auto team was away attending STX Training, investing time into learning, growing, and becoming better at what we do.

For us, training isn’t just about learning how to fix cars. It’s about improving every part of the experience — better diagnostics, better communication, stronger processes, and better teamwork.

Vehicles continue to get more advanced, and we believe our team needs to keep advancing right along with them. Taking a few days away from the shop is a big commitment, but continuing education is one of the ways we make sure we’re providing the level of service our customers deserve.

A huge thank you to our customers for your patience and understanding while we were closed. We’re excited to bring what we learned back to the shop and put it to work for you!

Better training. Better teamwork. Better service. 🔧🚗
