Tips for Using Your Music Together Songbook at Home! 🎶 🎵

🍂Sing together daily – Pick a song from the book and make it part of your morning or bedtime routine. Consistency helps children feel connected to music.
🍁Explore the illustrations – Talk about the pictures in the songbook; they can spark imagination and help children connect emotionally to the music.
🍂Add movement – Clap, dance, or use scarves and shakers while singing to make the experience more engaging and multisensory.
🍁Play along – If you have an instrument (even simple ones like a tambourine or ukulele), try playing the melody or rhythm from the notation in the book.
🍂Mix it up – Change the tempo, volume, or style of a song to encourage creativity and keep things fresh.
🍁Let your child lead – Invite them to choose the song, start the singing, or invent new verses. This builds confidence and ownership.
🍂Connect with everyday life – Sing songs during chores, car rides, or outdoor play to weave music naturally into your day.
🍁Celebrate progress – Notice when your child remembers lyrics, keeps a beat, or invents new movements, and share your excitement with them!

This is true in music—and it’s true in language.

Think about how children learn to speak. They hear the same words and sounds again and again. They repeat them. They babble, experiment, make mistakes, combine sounds in funny ways, and “play” with language long before they can confidently communicate a thought.

We don’t expect a toddler to understand grammar before they’re allowed to talk. We give them a safe space to experiment.

Music learning works the same way.

A child hears a rhythm again and again. They sing the same song. They repeat a pattern until it feels familiar. And somewhere along the way, repetition becomes comfort.

And when a child is comfortable, something wonderful happens: they start to play.

They change the rhythm.
They make up a melody.
They answer a musical question with their own idea.
They experiment.
They improvise.

And that play is where creation begins.

At Petite Musician, we believe the goal isn’t simply for children to reproduce what they’ve been taught. It’s to give them enough familiarity, confidence, and freedom that they eventually begin to say something of their own through music.

Because before a child can become a musical creator, they need permission to be a musical player.

Just like language, music is something children have to play with before they can truly speak through it. 🎶

🎶 Meet the faces behind Petite Musician! 🎶

For 23 years, Leah Creek and Mark Biesterfeld have been directing and teaching Petite Musician classes right here in Colorado! What started alongside raising their two daughters has grown into a beloved part of countless Colorado families’ lives. They’re so grateful to have shared music, movement, laughter, and special memories with generations of little ones and their families over the years!

When she’s not singing, dancing, and teaching, Ms. Leah enjoys performing with professional vocal groups across the Front Range, thrifting, and lifting weights. 🎤💪🛍️

When he’s not singing and dancing in class, Mr. Mark can most likely be found cheering on the Broncos or watching a soccer game, searching for vintage finds, or playing racquetball. 🏈⚽️🎾

We’re so thankful for the many years of music, memories, and community—and we can’t wait to keep making more! 🎵💛
