Here's a simple way to know if your granite needs resealing — drop a few beads of water on the surface. If the water beads up, your seal is still doing its job. If it absorbs into the stone and darkens the surface, it's time to reseal.
Here's how to do it:
✔️ Clean the surface thoroughly and let it dry completely — any moisture trapped under the sealant will affect the result
✔️ Apply a granite-specific penetrating sealer evenly across the surface
✔️ Let it sit for the time recommended on the product — usually 15 to 30 minutes
✔️ Wipe away any excess before it dries on the surface
✔️ Allow it to cure fully before using the countertop — typically 24 hours
Most granite countertops need resealing once a year, though some denser granites can go longer between treatments. A small amount of maintenance goes a long way in keeping your granite looking as beautiful as the day it was installed.
