The Illinois Service Resource Center Library is full of unique books, toys, videos and resources that support the behavioral needs of students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind, or Visually Impaired. A great item we loan our is our Jamtown Percussion Pack. It's filled with rhythm instruments students can hear and feel.

Here, ISRC Director, Cheri Sinnott Springer, along with Jane A. Neil Teacher, Allison Hopkins and Orientation &Mobility Specialist, Christina Smerz, hold a restorative practice drum circle with Neil students who are blind and visually impaired using the Jamtown instruments.

Congratulations to student leader, Nour, from Chicago Vocational Career Academy (CPS) who won the DHH classroom wide PBIS ”Leadership Award”! Teacher Ms. Carla Salamanca distributed ISRC Behavior Punch Cards to her class in March 2026. The students carried the cards daily and presented them upon being “CAUGHT” displaying the LEADERSHIP skills of being prepared, safe, respectful, responsible, on time, trying & not giving up, staying focused, and positive peer relationships!! Well done Nour!!

From May 1-7, the ISRC sponsors We Can Do It Week. This week encourages students of all abilities to find ways to serve their community. We love to see photos of the projects students have worked on, all over the state.

Today is Library Outreach Day as we celebrate National Library Week. The ISRC Library is all about reaching out to support our patrons.

One of our favorite outreach events is our Summer Reading Incentive. This year's theme is 🪴Plant A Seed - READ! Reading can help kids grow in so many directions. And there's no better time than summer to dig into a good book. Keep an eye out for how your Library Kid can read all summer long with the ISRC Library
