DTK Stone Works

We love the material choices in this kitchen, built by Homes by James. A soft grey, concrete-base Caesarstone Quartz wraps the perimeter, while polished quartzite takes center stage on the island. The contrast is subtle, but gives the space so much more dimension!

The fabrication deserves a closer look, too. The perimeter includes a custom stone sink fabricated from the quartz itself, creating a continuous transition from countertop to basin. On the island, the polished quartzite is finished with a mitered edge that is soft yet substantial & stunning 😌

Expert craftsmanship by every person involved in this project created an unforgettable, warm, reserved, luxurious kitchen space. The subtle details ensured it will look just as good years down the line.

Choosing stone for a bathroom? There’s more to consider than what looks pretty on the slab…

Bathrooms give us SO many opportunities to use stone in eye-catching and functional ways. Vanities, shower walls, benches, thresholds, tub surrounds, integrated sinks... the list goes on. But where the stone is going matters just as much as what it looks like.

At DTK, we help you consider things such as water exposure, maintenance, finish, durability, and how much daily use the surface will actually see. A material that makes perfect sense for a powder room vanity may not be the same one we’d recommend inside a heavily used shower. It’s our job to understand how you’re going to live in that space so that your choice of stone and how it’s fabricated stands the test of time.

And then, of course, there’s the fun part: the design! Do you want the stone to quietly complement the room, or be the thing everyone notices when they walk in? There's a mix of both in this carousel because honestly, there really isn’t one right answer here! The right stone is the one that works for the space AND gives you the look you want.

THE DTK STANDARD - Vein Matching

Before a single cut is made, there’s always a plan in place!

Vein matching is one of the most CAD-intensive steps in the fabrication process, but each part and person involved plays a role in keeping the natural movement of any stone flowing across adjoining surfaces.

Throwback Thursday! Showcasing this very special kitchen from a very fun 2022 Arlington Heights project
Lavezzi Quartzite in an “extra suede” finish was used throughout the kitchen, from the oversized island and perimeter countertops to the tucked-away bar area.
We love how soft this stone feels in the space. The subtle movement works so beautifully with the warm cabinetry & dark wood, and the brass details elevate it all even further!

Simply luxurious. Beautiful, warm, and very, very pretty. Pure artisanal-level craftsmanship from everyone involved.

This custom bar uses two takes on a classic edge. The lower countertops feature a single ogee , while the raised bar top uses a stacked double ogee, giving it a thicker, more substantial look and helping define it as the centerpiece of the space.

It’s a beautiful example of how the same edge profile can be adapted throughout a space to enhance the stone or even create a completely different effect!

Full-height natural marble surrounds the tub and window as a feature wall, then carries straight into the shower, complete with a custom bench, niche tapered lean-back ledge, fine detailing, and carefully planned veining throughout.

This one called for some serious fabrication, and the finished space speaks for itself.
