Exploring Kansas

We got out of the house today and wandered over to Eldorado lake for a little bit with the dogs and Cooper. Maverick really needed the nature time. He really loves it. We hoping you're all having a wonderful weekend.

As far as a Maverick update, he's doing better and doing all the things he's supposed to be doing. The steroids he's on area definitely helping him get back to normal.

🌻 A little update about this weekend’s $100 hunt…

We’ve decided to skip the treasure hunt this weekend and move it to next weekend instead. ❤️

Thursday morning, we had a pretty scary situation with Maverick. We believe he may have had a stroke, and after taking him to the vet today, we’ve gotten him started on steroids. Right now, our focus is simply on Mavvy, keeping him comfortable, and giving him the time and attention he needs. 🐾❤️

Our dogs have been part of Exploring Kansas from the very beginning. They’ve ridden countless Kansas backroads with us, explored alongside us, and been part of so many of the adventures you guys have followed over the years. So when one of them isn’t doing well, everything else can wait.

The $100 isn’t going anywhere though. 😉💰 We’ll be back out hiding it next weekend, and we hope you’ll all be ready to hunt!

For now, we’d appreciate some extra love sent Mavvy’s way. 🐾❤️

Adventure is closer than you think.

Tulsa/Broken Arrow trip this weekend. We Stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott at Woodland Hills. Ate supper at Red Robbins, that place was a lot pricier than we had anticipated but it was amazing food and great service. Then after finding out our hotel didn't come with a free breakfast, we went to the Waffle House down the road. That place was fast and had GREAT service. Wish we had some in Wichita. Then we checked out The Gathering Place for a little bit. That place was really nice too. Lastly we checked out the Aquarium. It was a fun and cool place to check out on a hot summer day to beat the heat. I really wish Wichita would start their own Aquarium and add some waffle houses. We also should get a free playground area park that stretches along the Arkansas River downtown Wichita. That place was really neat.

And apparently they weren’t alone out there — they said there were TWO groups searching for it! 👀😂 We absolutely LOVE hearing that people were out there hunting at the same time. Nothing like a little friendly competition to make that $100 jar even more exciting!

Now that Montgomery County is officially in the books, we're headed toward Tulsa for our long weekend and anniversary getaway! ❤️🚙

The hunt is officially ON! 👀💵

📍 The jar is hidden somewhere at Montgomery County State Fishing Lake! We tagged the general location on the LAST PHOTO, so make sure you check it before heading out. From there, it’s up to you to find the $100! 😏

🐍 Quick safety reminder: It’s also the time of year when baby copperheads can be out and about. They’re small, easy to overlook, and can blend in incredibly well with leaves and rocks, so PLEASE watch where you’re stepping and reaching. No amount of treasure is worth getting bit over. 😅

🌻 No digging or destroying anything.
🌻 Be mindful of wildlife.

Once this jar was tucked away, our little Exploring Kansas crew pointed the vehicle south — we're off to Tulsa for the long weekend! 🥰 This coming week is also our anniversary, so we're sneaking in a little family getaway while we're at it. ❤️

This time we're heading to Montgomery County, where somewhere—and that's ALL you're getting out of us tonight 👀😂—we'll be hiding another jar with $100 cash inside!

After Robert found the last one at Wilson Lake ridiculously fast, we're starting to think you guys are getting a little TOO good at this. 🤣 Maybe it's officially time for us to step up our hiding game!

Our 15 year anniversary is this coming week, so after we hide the jar, we're continuing south and spending some time in Tulsa! 🥰 Of course, we're bringing our little adventure buddy along, so we're looking for some fun things to do that are toddler-friendly. The dogs will be with the inlaws in McPherson over the weekend.

We already know about the Aquarium and the new jungle gym so give us your favorite Tulsa recommendations besides that! Parks, animals, cool places to explore, hidden gems, good food—whatever you think a toddler (and his parents 😂) would enjoy.

Apparently our challenge of “Will Russell County find it faster?” was taken VERY seriously.

Robert found the $100 jar at Wilson Lake! 🎉🫙💵

And somehow… HE WAS EVEN FASTER. 😂

The jar was hidden near the Scenic Lookout by the dam, and apparently it barely had enough time to get comfortable before Robert came along and snatched it up. 🤣
