I've taken this one a little slower so far but it's paying off. Cuda is learning life doesn't always have to be done at 100mph all the time. She also told me she would like me to forget the loping hack and stick to a halter. Noted girlfriend 🫡😂

So happy to have a mare in the training rotation again. This year for whatever reason has been very gelding heavy. Not that I mind. I do love the boys but the sass is something I miss despite owing two wonderful sassy mares. Cuda certainly fits the bill and has brought me great joy already from her sass.

On these really hot days go get out a snaffle and have a walk ride. Work on softness. Do lots of backing. Can you move your horses hips, shoulders and ribcage? How about stopping just with your seat? Practice walking as fast as you can but then also see if you can just get one single step at a time. Try out your side pass. Just because you get on the horse doesn't mean you need to go fast to get something done.

Guest appearance in the arena for this morning's riding lesson. We removed our grumpy friend so he wouldn't get stepped on and then saw an even larger turtle stuck in the fence and got that one freed as well.

Took three-year-old Maverick out on his first real adventure on Friday. I begged (it didn't take much 😂) one of my lesson students to join us with Flicka to be our trail guide. We went up to El Dorado Lake and had a wonderful time. We saw several trains, got passed by cars on the road, and watched a jet ski in the water. One person hauling a boat did not make an attempt to slow down hardly at all but I was incredibly proud by how well Maverick took everything in stride. It's so good for these young horses to get out and stretch their legs away from the arena. And good for Flicka who needs a break away from teaching lessons for me and always doing speed events.

C**t starts must be a minimum of 60 days to ensure a solid foundation

-Horses are worked 5-6 days a week
-Free-choice hay and grain up to 6 pounds per day provided. Alfalfa as needed
-Will blanket/ do fly gear if provided
-Horses live in individual lots with sheds

All horses must have current coggins and vaccinations

Moving forward I am requiring a signed contract and $150 deposit to hold your spot. Deposit is applicable to 1st month of training

Left Barrel First had another fantastic evening at the Haysville Saddle Club last Saturday.

I finally got to ride in a show again 🎉
My concussion symptoms are finally allowing me back in the saddle and I brought client horse Chapo with me to the show. He and I had a great evening participating in all the events even if he started out scared of the barrels. We even managed to place in a couple of the events despite my jokes about being the slowest flash you have ever seen!

Skylar came for her second show and showed Flicka in a competitive 10-13 age group to two 2nd places, a 3rd and a 4th. I told her we are getting some color for her ribbon wall!

And last but certainly not least my mom showed us all how it was done with a clean sweep and the highpoint in the Jack Benny age group. Her and Flicka also managed to get their personal best barrel time of a 22.7!
