For its 2026-27 season, Wichita Grand Opera is highlighting works that deploy beautiful music to tell intensely dramatic stories.
The season's two main-stage opera productions will help the company live up to the โgrandโ promise of its name, with large casts and choruses on the Century II Concert Hall stage supported by a full symphony orchestra in the pit. Pucciniโs โToscaโ opens on October 30, with a second performance November 1. The traditional double bill of Mascagniโs โCavalleria rusticanaโ and Leoncavalloโs โPagliacciโ will follow next spring, April 10-11.
Other 2026-27 offerings include 'Amahl and the Night Visitors,' 'The Light in the Piazza,' and a concert by Wiener Sรคngerknaben / The Vienna Boys Choir. Click through to review the preview by Sam Jack ๐

By asking artists to respond to the theme โFigure of Speech,โ a curator acknowledges two things: that metaphor-making is a discipline, and that language, text, and visual art are closely allied as forms of expressive communication.
Thatโs the prompt the Lincoln Art Center sent to its circle of artists for the venueโs 10th invitational exhibition, and the result is a collection of 24 works by Kansas-based artists.
"Figure of Speech" is on view in Lincoln Center, Kansas, through October 17. Read Lori Brack's review ๐ https://www.shoutwichita.com/lincoln-art-center-figure-of-speech/
