Community Night is this Wednesday, September 23,2026! Everyone is always welcomed!!!

Thank you to all of the families and students who joined us last Saturday! We loved seeing the creativity and messages of kindness from our students.

Super Saturday is THIS Saturday! 🧡

From 10:00–11:30am we’ll spend some time learning about the history and meaning of Orange Shirt Day/Every Child Matters, then students will get to make their own orange shirts by adding their handprints to our Every Child Matters design. We’ll also have a couple of other small activities for students to enjoy along the way.

Then, from 11:30am–1:00pm, we’re sticking around for our first Family Learning Lab!📚

No school for any 9 a.m. start WPS elementary schools today, Wednesday, Sept. 16, due to the boil water advisory. Students at latchkey at these schools will need to be picked up as soon as possible.

Determinations about Sept. 17 and after-school events will be made when more information is available.

Schools that are already in session and 9 a.m. secondary start schools will continue as normal.

****Update: Afternoon Pre-K for schools that start at 8 a.m. is canceled for today.

***Update: All after-school programs, activities and athletic practices on WPS property are canceled for today, Wednesday, Sept 16. Athletic events that are hosted out-of-district will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

We enjoyed visiting the Mayberry Cultural and Fine Arts Magnet Middle School Native American Studies class and sharing some of our replica artifacts with students!

After recently learning about how Native peoples of the Plains utilized the buffalo, it was great to bring that learning to life through hands-on examples and conversation.

Join us for Indigenous Peoples’ Day & the Annual Trail of Tears Memorial Walk at the Mid-America All-Indian Museum.

Saturday, October 3 | 10 AM–1 PM

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an opportunity to honor, remember, and reflect on those who came before us. Together, we’ll gather as a community for a meaningful morning of remembrance.

The day will begin with a welcome and blessing, followed by a reading of the Indigenous Peoples’ Day Proclamation and the Annual Trail of Tears Memorial Walk around the drum on the museum grounds.

Community health and resource stations will be available throughout the event, along with hands-on activities and games for children and families.

IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION:
Please park at Exploration Place and walk across Keeper Plaza to the museum. The small parking lot directly in front of MAAIM will be reserved for elders and guests with disabilities.

We invite you to walk with us as we remember the past, honor Indigenous peoples, and gather together in community.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the beginning of the new school year with us! 🩵 We had such a great evening filled with film, pizza, and good company. We’re excited for another great year together! 📚✨

Reminder: Schools and district offices are closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. Schools will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 8, for district inservice.
