The Eleventh of September

I was thirteen when the sky grew still,
and in that moment my childhood ended.
I knew enough to understand
the world had changed and so did everything in it.

I watched a nation mourn and grieve,
and strangers hold each other. Breathe.
Flags waved where ashes lay,
and somehow hope survived that day.

Now years have passed, and I can see
how fragile life has come to be.
But through the sorrow, through the years,
Christ has met us in our tears.

So I remember—not with fear,
but with the ones I hold most dear.
For death may take, and time may change,
but my Lord Jesus remains the same.

And when this world is finally still,
I know whose hands will hold me then—
the hands that bore the wounds for me,
the hands that promise eternity.

So today I pause, and softly pray
for every life remembered on this day—
Until we meet beyond the veil,
where love remains, and death has failed.

Remembering Charlie.
