On Sunday, I was honored to attend the 25th Annual Kansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony. Our new Fire Chief, Michael Mire from the City of Wichita- Government's Wichita Fire Department, talked about the losses he has experienced in his nearly 30-year career as a firefighter. In his short time here, Chief Mire has learned about the line-of-duty deaths we've experienced in Wichita and around the state. This annual ceremony, held at the Kansas Firefighters Museum, recognizes firefighters from across the state of Kansas who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to residents.

What a wonderful event we had last night in District 2! I’m thrilled The Cheesecake Factory has opened in Bradley Fair, bringing with it jobs for our residents, economic development for the City of Wichita- Government—and delicious cheesecake! Many thanks to Bradley Fair General Manager Jessica Branning and her team for their help in making this sweet dream happen. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 29 when the restaurant opens to the public!

FosterAdopt Connect Wichita has offices in District 2--please consider donating diapers, kids shoes, or teen clothing as they serve many residents and offer monthly shopping for foster families, adoptive families, and kinship (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) families here in Wichita.

Wichita FAC truly appreciates the giving of the Sedgwick Co. and surrounding communities; it allows us to help so many families!! If you happen to have any of the following items that we're most in need of, please feel free to drop them off at 356 N. Rock Rd.

I was honored to be asked by the City of Wichita- Government's Wichita Parks & Recreation Department to help kick off Open Streets ICT today! What a FABULOUS event with such an AMAZING turnout! I've seen this event develop and grow for nearly a decade--had it not been for COVID, this year would've been the 10th anniversary. I am so grateful I was there at the beginning when the idea of closing off a major road one day out the year became a reality. Many, MANY thanks to all of the sponsors who helped make today possible: Koch, KAKE News, Bank of America, UMR (UnitedHealthcare), Wichita Federal Credit Union, Wichita Parks Foundation, Meritrust Credit Union, Delta Dental of Kansas, Audacy, and Fidelity Bank.

The boil water advisory for the City of Wichita has been rescinded.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has rescinded the boil water advisory for the City of Wichita after all 195 water test results came back clear and free of contamination. Wichita water has remained safe for normal use and consumption.

The advisory was issued early Wednesday morning after a loss of pressure in the water system. The pressure loss followed a power outage caused by the failure of generators that were being used during Tuesday night’s storm.

Water samples were collected from testing locations throughout the system Wednesday. Following the required 24-hour incubation period for bacteria testing, City staff and KDHE reviewed the results Thursday afternoon. Testing found no evidence of bacteria, and KDHE determined that other conditions that could have placed the system at risk of contamination had been resolved.

Based on the results, KDHE confirmed there was no presence of bacteria in the City’s system and released a notice stating that the boil water advisory had been rescinded.

Wholesale water utilities that use Wichita water should contact their municipality for guidance on their boil advisories.

The City collected samples near the point of connection for wholesale customers, but per regulation, they are responsible to do the same for their respective systems.

Customers in those areas should continue following their local boil water guidance until notified otherwise.

The City is also continuing to investigate the cause of the generator power failure and will review procedures intended to prevent a similar multi-failure power outage in the future.
