Holly’s Place Equestrian Center: The youth that ride at Holly’s Place Equestrian Center and the youth that have joined our barn team spend so much time over the summer volunteering for camps, helping take mini horses to nursing homes and memory care facilities, and working with field trip groups that come tour the farm.

They really give a lot of themselves in all areas of horsemanship; putting in the time to practice for shows and competitions, helping mentor others and learning everything they can about horse care! Buckles would be such a fun way to reward their hard work!

I have read the research on whether horses form genuine attachments to specific humans. I know what the research says and I find it informative and I also find that 2 decades of living alongside horses makes me a different kind of expert than the literature and the two types of knowledge are not always in agreement on the specifics. Last week I left the gate open between the back field and the south pasture and the connecting gate to the barn area and I walked to the center of the back field and I stood there and I waited. My bay mare (who I’ve had since she was born) could have gone to the barn where the hay is. She could have gone to the south pasture where the grass is better. She could have gone anywhere on our 35 acres of property that were all equally accessible to her. She walked to where I was standing. She walked from the field edge to the center where I stood and she stopped beside me and grazed. Not at me. Beside me. I stood in the center of the open pasture with the horse who chose to be where I was when every other option was available to her and I understood something I had believed for years but had never had confirmed so directly. She chose this. She keeps choosing this. So do I. That is the whole of what we are.

There's an old saying in the horse world:

"When your horse is broken, you fix it. When you are broken, your horse fixes you." 💕✨

For anyone who has ever loved a horse, those words couldn't be more true.

Horses have an incredible gift. They don't judge us by our mistakes, our worries, or the weight we carry. They don't care what kind of day we've had or how difficult life has become. They simply stand beside us, offering quiet companionship when we need it most. 🌅🤎

Some of life's greatest therapy sessions don't happen in an office—they happen on a peaceful hillside, in a quiet stable, or while watching the sunset with a trusted horse by your side. 🌄🐎

There are moments when we spend countless hours nursing an injured horse back to health, patiently waiting for every small sign of recovery. Then, without even realising it, they repay us in ways no medicine ever could. A gentle nudge, a soft whicker, warm breath on your shoulder, or simply their calming presence can mend a heart that words never could. 🥹💖

The bond between horse and rider is unlike any other. Built on trust, patience, and unconditional love, it's a friendship that often carries us through life's toughest days. Horses remind us to slow down, breathe deeply, and appreciate the simple moments that truly matter. 🌿✨

Sometimes they carry us over fences. Sometimes they carry us through life.

And for that, we'll always be grateful. ❤️🐴
