Sunset Models 3rd Rail

Production is officially underway on the Union Pacific Heritage Fleet and America 250 Big Boy cars, parts are almost done being shot and the aluminum bodies will be starting soon!

During my recent factory visit, I was able to see the samples of some of the underbody components being shot, and I wanted to share a few of those photos.

It has been decades since highly detailed Union Pacific Passenger cars have been offered in O Scale, with Wasatch setting the bar extremely high nearly 30 years ago.

These cars are a big step forward for us. They will be the first passenger cars we have produced with individually applied underbody components, simulated recessed can lighting on observation platforms, upgraded interior details, turned wheels for the first time in 3 Rail, giving us a much higher level of detail underneath the cars than we have been able to offer in the past.

The order books are locked and production quantities are underway at the factory. That said, we are still accepting standby orders on both the Heritage Fleet and America 250 cars. If additional pieces become available during production, standby customers will be contacted in the order their requests were received.

For those who ordered America 250 Big Boy Set 1, remember that when the second set is announced next year, Set 1 customers will have the opportunity to reserve the matching numbered Set 2 to complete the consist.

Project completion is currently looking like late December into early January.

More production photos will be coming as the cars move through assembly, paint, lettering, and final production.

A lot of work has gone into getting this project to this point, and it is great to finally see the parts coming out of the molds and production moving forward.

F7 painting and lettering is underway and as we saw a few weeks ago in China, chassis are almost done as well!

We'll have samples of a few of the schemes at York in a few weeks and the entire run is scheduled to ship out later this month!

The O Scale Union Pacific Modern Auxiliary Tender CAD is in the final review stage!

Every day we get a little closer to having prototypically accurate tenders for our O Scale 2 Rail and 3 Rail community and we couldn't be more excited.

With proper dimensions, details, opening hatches and operating roller bearings, what more could be asked for?

We may even have a sample at the York Train Fair...

The 60’ Skyboxes are coming together nicely, the first round of CAD has just come in from design.

A few corrections are noted and maybe we’ll have a 3D Sample at York 👀

These will be up for another few months with a spring 27’ delivery!

And yes, the roller bearings, will in fact roll 😉
