🫣 I think my fellow dreadlock artists might murder me for this one. BUT good, solid crochet technique can really do a lot of the work that palm rolling is meant to do especially as far as keeping the locks rounded. I usually tell clients that palm rolling might be for you -IF- you really like and want smooth, cylindrical locks. If you prefer a more lived-in, messy, freeform aesthetic, less is definitely more. 🌿

✨ Because palm rolling DOES absolutely work to help things along and artificially create the friction and compression needed to help accelerate the locking process of done regularly, BUT if your goal is less maintenance rather than more, I don't think it's a must. 🤷🏻‍♀️

🧼 Hard limit. Traditional conditioners are literally MADE to coat the hair and prevent tangling. So, for starters, that's definitely the opposite of our goal. And secondly, those ingredients are often silicone-based which will build up as residue which is gross and, ultimately, smelly and probably moldy. So let's not and say we didn't. 🤷🏻‍♀️

🌿 However, once your locs are established you CAN add a lightweight "dry" oil to your care routine to preserve elasticity and condition of the hair over time. That's basically like taking the good stuff from conditioners and leaving the rest! (As I mentioned a couple days ago my fave base oils for this include jojoba, camellia seed, and apricot kernel oil.) 🍑
