A Tropical depression has formed in the south west Gulf. Rapid strengthening and organization is expected over the next few days and hurricane development is possible by later this week. Those along the coast from Louisiana to Florida should pay close attention to the forecasts in the coming days.

There is something to watch in the extended range forecast starting next week. There is signal for western US troughing late this weekend that would eject eastward into the central US by sometime next week should it occur. This is something to monitor, if enough moisture and instability accompany such troughing some severe storm potential, and possibly winter impacts further northwest, may exist sometime next week.

Aside from some light rain across the Wisconsin vicinity later today, the next 6 to 7 days look very dry across the region. Temperatures look to be mostly above average for this timeframe as well.

A very quiet weather pattern will build into the Midwest over the next week or two as ridging out west impinges into the Plains. This will lead to slightly above average temperatures for the Midwest and very dry conditions with very little rainfall expected during the period especially with western extent. As always this time of year a few fronts will move through parts of the region during this timeframe but no extended period of below average temperatures is expected at least through the first week to ten days of October.

Several tornadoes occurred today in central Kansas. Not hearing of any major damage reports or any injuries as most of these were weaker. Still, this localized tornado outbreak did overperform my forecast of just a few tornadoes.
