Worcester Aud

Today we honor those who fought to protect this country. In 1933, a "grateful city" erected the Worcester Auditorium as a memorial to those who fought in World War I - and, as the inscription says: to nourish in peace their spirit of sacrifice.

We get it: old buildings can give off some majorly spooky vibes. But maybe that's part of the attraction? We certainly can't get enough of these eerie shots of The Aud taken by . Boo!

Jake Sanders recently joined the Architectural Heritage Foundation (AHF) as Project Executive for the renovation and redevelopment of the Worcester Memorial Auditorium! Jake will spearhead AHF’s efforts to preserve the Aud’s historical integrity while adapting the facility to meet the needs of a 21st century economy. Born and raised in Worcester, Jake has extensive experience working for and on behalf of the City, most recently as Chief of Staff to City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. Jake says of his new role, “This is a unique opportunity during a unique time in Worcester’s history. So many of us have fond memories of the Aud and I’m going to do all I can to help bring it back to its proper place as an architectural and cultural gem in the City. - The Aud is a time capsule. Wander through any of the side chambers, and you'll find the relics of events gone by. Like stacks upon stacks of sheet music of choral works by Wagner and Holst.

Worcester Chapter AGO

On the outside, The Aud is the epitome of Classical Revival architecture, but on the inside, Art Deco reigns supreme. The best example can be found in the entrance lobby, a warmly lit, marble hall featuring geometrical designs and rich colors that are the hallmark of Art Deco style. With outside investment and funding, the Architectural Heritage Foundation will be able to open the lobby to audiences once again.
