For the longest time, most kitchen remodels we came across leaned toward gas range selections. We've all seen those amazing pictures: the custom hoods and Wolf stoves with their classic k***s and features most of us can only dream about. That trend is slowly shifting toward induction cooktops. We're seeing more requests for a flush induction top sitting right at counter level, keeping it semi-hidden and sleek without the heavy aesthetic of a gas or electric range. And if you have small children who love to get their hands on everything, induction is also a safer choice for keeping those little hands safe.

A double island might seem like overkill, but every now and then we have a client who absolutely loves to host. For this kitchen remodel, a full-size double island with plenty of storage was an absolute must. Come the holidays, she invites all her friends and family to cook together, and the kitchen needed to hold its own. We delivered. (And won an award for it too.)

Our last post talked about the rising trend of semi-zoned flexible layouts, but let's give open concept its well deserved moment too. Open layouts are really efficient at maximizing natural light, spatial feel, and easier entertaining. And if you have kids, it is 100% way easier to keep an eye on those little troublemakers.

Summer is winding down and fall is quietly creeping in. And with it, we have been getting an uptick of inquiries about broken-plan and semi-open layouts versus full open concept. The reasons are pretty consistent across the board.

Energy efficiency, acoustic and visual zoning, and the desire for a little more privacy without feeling completely closed off. Nothing wrong with open concept at all, but with rising energy costs and evolving lifestyles, it might be worth thinking carefully about exactly what kind of open concept actually works for your family before the renovation begins.

This is the stage of construction where things start to get exciting.
One photo shows the new space starting to take shape with fresh walls, built-in cabinetry, and a much clearer sense of purpose. The next shows the room fully opened up during demo, with the old walls removed and the structure exposed.

We are still mid-install, but you can already see the direction. The darker cabinetry adds contrast against the lighter walls, and the full-height built-ins are starting to give the room a more finished and intentional feel.

Still a work in progress, but the vision is definitely coming together.

Sometimes building an addition isn't a cut dry process. Sometimes we have to dig a massive hole, create concrete foundation walls to finally form the frame-ready foundation of the build. 🚧

A visit to one of our previous projects!

This was a fun project we tend to reminisce because the original state was something unforgettable.

Originally, the Left side's existing “system” was simply stacked bins on open shelves. On the Right side was a catch-all for knick-knacks and home essentials.

After the rebuild, the left side (from entry door view) now embraces practicality, serving as a well-appointed laundry section with an integrated sink and abundant storage to neatly house the home’s everyday utility needs. The right side is dedicated to the full function of a mudroom, complete with a built-in bench, substantial cabinet storage fitted with custom shelving, dedicated coat closets, and upper cabinets that provide valuable additional space.

It's a true testament of intentional space that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.
