He took three apostles โ€“ Peter, James, and John โ€“ up to a high mountain to pray. As they were praying, His appearance changed, and His clothes became โ€œdazzling white.โ€ At that point, Moses and Elijah appeared and spoke to the Lord about His upcoming death. A cloud overshadowed the group, and God the Fatherโ€™s voice came from the cloud saying, โ€œ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’Š๐’” ๐’Š๐’” ๐’Ž๐’š ๐’ƒ๐’†๐’๐’๐’—๐’†๐’… ๐‘บ๐’๐’; ๐‘ณ๐’Š๐’”๐’•๐’†๐’ ๐’•๐’ ๐’‰๐’Š๐’Ž!โ€
How can we listen more attentively to the Lord's voice today?

FEAST OF ST IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA - JULY 31
A Basque gentleman soldier, he was wounded in battle and, during his convalescence, was inspired by the lives of the saints to serve God. When well, he wandered, prayed, ministered to the poor and sick, and had mystical experiences that form the basis of this book of Spiritual Exercises. Returning to school, he earned a master's degree from the University of Paris. There he gathered other students for service to Jesus. After ordination the group went to Rome, where they became the Society of Jesus, or Jesuits.

JULY 25 - FEAST OF ST JAMES THE APOSTLE
St. James, whom we honor today, was the brother of John, the Gospel writer. He was privileged to witness Jesusโ€™ Transfiguration, His Agony in the Garden, and that Jesus prophesied that James would drink the cup that He drank, and be baptized with Jesusโ€™ baptism (see Mark 10:39). This โ€œcupโ€ and โ€œbaptismโ€ are clear references to Saint Jamesโ€™ martyrdom by which he would imitate his Lord. There is little doubt that his witnessing of Jesus being transfigured in glory and his presence with Jesus in the garden infused his natural temperament with grace, giving him courage to be the FIRST of the Apostles to be martyred. St. James, PRAY FOR US!

On July 22, the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene, one of the most prominent women mentioned in the New Testament. Her name comes from the town of Magdala in Galilee, where she was born. Scripture introduces her as a woman โ€œwho had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone outโ€ (Lk. 8:2). Mary Magdalene was a follower of Christ, who accompanied and ministered to him (Lk. 8:2-3). The Gospels record her as being one of the women present at Christโ€™s crucifixion. In addition, she was the first recorded witness of the Resurrection.
