It was a great opportunity for students to network with our attorneys, several who are BC Law alum themselves, to learn about life at central Massachusetts largest law firm. Mirick was pleased to partner with Martha's Vineyard Bank and Martha's Vineyard Investment Advisors to host a community estate planning seminar at the Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth yesterday. Estate Planning Attorney Bob Mascali joined MVIA Chief of Investments Dave Malone and bank Trust Administrator Eve Vincent for the presentation.

In one of six dynamic workshops planned as part of Mirick's upcoming Annual Labor & Employment Law Seminar, this workshop will begin with a high-level overview of the Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave Act, then cover complex issues for employer compliance pursuant to the Act. Using real-world examples, Attorneys Hayley Cotter and Jonathan Sigel will walk through some of the thornier issues employers have faced in navigating situations like intermittent leave, ADA accommodation, and post-leave discipline in light of the recent first PFMLA jury verdict in favor of a terminated employee.

Chapter 151B. The workshop will explore what constitutes unlawful sexual harassment, including quid pro quo and hostile work environment claims, examine common workplace scenarios and evolving standards of conduct, and discuss employer responsibilities for preventing, investigating, and responding to complaints. The presentation will also address practical considerations for employers seeking to minimize risk and foster a respectful workplace.
