A 25-Foot Wave of Molasses Killed 21 People... And It's One of America's Strangest True Stories
It sounds like fiction.
A giant wave racing through city streets...
People trapped...
Buildings ripped apart...
But it wasn't water.
It was molasses.
On January 15, 1919, a massive steel tank in Boston suddenly burst, releasing about 2.3 million gallons of molasses into the city's North End. Witnesses described a roaring sound before a fast-moving wall of thick syrup swept through the neighborhood, destroying buildings, overturning wagons, and trapping people and horses in its path. The disaster killed 21 people and injured around 150 others. HISTORY
More than a century later, it's still remembered as one of the most unusual industrial disasters in American history.
💬 Had you ever heard of the Great Molasses Flood before today?

They weren't trapped by the fire... they were trapped by locked doors.
On March 25, 1911, a fire swept through the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York City. Within minutes, 146 workers—mostly teenage girls and young immigrant women—lost their lives.
Many of them didn't die because the flames reached them first.
They died because the exit doors had been locked.
Some waited at the windows hoping for help that never came. Others made heartbreaking decisions that shocked an entire nation.
That single tragedy changed American workplace safety forever and led to laws that still protect millions of workers today.
It's one of the most important stories in U.S. history, yet many people have never heard the full story.
💬 Could something like this happen today?
