Public assistance benefits are taxpayer-funded investments in Michigan families, and they deserve the same fraud protections as any bank card. That's why I introduced HB 4746, requiring chip-enabled technology on Bridge Cards to better protect recipients from theft and fraud. I'm proud to share that this legislation has been signed into law and was included in Michigan’s FY27 budget!
By bringing Bridge Cards up to modern security standards, this upgrade would help prevent criminals from stealing benefits through skimming devices and other tactics. This is a commonsense step to safeguard taxpayer-funded assistance and ensure support reaches the Michigan families who depend on it.

On Wednesday, the House passed HB 6302, legislation requiring public schools to display an American flag in classrooms where students recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
The American flag is a symbol of our nation, our freedoms, and the sacrifices made by generations of Americans who fought to defend them. From the battlefields of the Revolutionary War to the men and women serving our country today, countless Americans have risked and given their lives to protect the liberties we enjoy. Ensuring that it is present in our classrooms is a simple but meaningful way to honor our country, those who have served it, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending it.
It is disappointing that some Democrats chose to vote against this common-sense measure. Respecting and displaying the American flag should not be a partisan issue. The flag stands for the freedoms, opportunities, and constitutional rights enjoyed by every American, and recognizing its importance is a way of honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans and fallen heroes.

The House fought for a budget that reins in spending while keeping the focus on the priorities that matter most to Michigan families.
That's why we passed a plan that reduces state general fund spending by $859 million, eliminates another $800 million in waste, fraud, and abuse, protects our rainy-day fund, and avoids raising taxes. We continued our efforts to root out government bloat by cutting an additional 250 ghost employee positions and putting an end to automatic deposits into programs that lacked accountability and made sure more dollars are directed toward services that deliver measurable results.
At the same time, we made room for targeted investments where they matter most, including improving literacy outcomes for students, strengthening public safety, and enhancing safeguards to prevent misuse in public assistance programs.
Michigan taxpayers expect their hard-earned dollars to be spent wisely. This budget takes an important step in that direction by prioritizing accountability, fiscal responsibility, and results over bigger government.

Yesterday, the House passed HR 373, a resolution denouncing socialism and reaffirming the principles of liberty, individual freedom, and economic opportunity that have made America the most prosperous nation in the world.
For many Americans who have lived under socialist systems, the dangers of concentrating power in government are not abstract. They have witnessed firsthand the loss of individual liberty, limited economic opportunity, and government control over decisions that are best left to individuals, families, and local communities.
A resolution recognizing the historical failures of socialism and reaffirming the values that have long defined our nation, freedom, personal responsibility, free enterprise, and self-government, should not be controversial. Yet some Democrats voted against a measure that simply acknowledges socialism's failings and reaffirms the freedoms that generations of Americans have fought to defend and sacrificed their lives to preserve.
During our investigation into Michigan's unemployment system, the House Oversight Committee identified more than 2,000 employees and contractors within the Unemployment Insurance Agency and the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity who received unemployment benefits while still employed.
That's why we're pushing for stronger safeguards, better verification measures, and greater accountability to protect taxpayer dollars and restore trust in the system.

I thought electric vehicles were going to fix the gas ⛽️ issue!!! Very hypocritical of the left to talk about gas prices when they have wanted to destroy that industry!
It was an honor to speak in support of HR 351, honoring Cindy Denby, who proudly represented Livingston County in the Michigan House from 2009 to 2014. I was grateful to be joined by her family yesterday as we recognized her life of service and the lasting impact she had on our district.
It is an honor to serve in the same seat she once held and to continue representing the community she cared for so deeply. Cindy's dedication to Livingston County touched countless lives, and she will be remembered with gratitude for generations to come.

Today, I had the privilege of speaking in support of HR 351, a resolution honoring Cindy Denby, who represented Livingston County in the Michigan House from 2009 to 2014. I was honored to be joined on the House floor today by her family as we recognized her remarkable life, service, and legacy. Cindy sadly passed away on August 18th.
Before serving in the Legislature, Cindy dedicated 16 years to the Handy Township Board, serving eight years as Township Clerk and eight years as Township Supervisor. Her unwavering commitment to public service, strong leadership, and devotion to the people of Handy Township and Livingston County left a lasting impact that continues to be felt today.
I am deeply honored to serve in the very seat she once held and to continue the work of representing the community she cared for so passionately. Her legacy serves as an example of what it means to lead with integrity, humility, and a deep commitment to serving others.
Cindy devoted her life to making Livingston County a better place, and the countless lives she touched stand as a testament to her character and dedication. She will be remembered with gratitude, and her contributions to our community will never be forgotten.

Thank you, Michigan Public, for highlighting the House passage of HB 5648!
Every student’s path to success looks different. HB 5648 would allow high school seniors to earn a math credit through skilled trades programs, acknowledging the value of hands-on, skills-based learning. This commonsense approach helps students gain real-world experience, explore rewarding career opportunities, and supports Michigan’s growing demand for skilled trades workers.
Michigan House bill would give school credit for job experience The bill would require school districts to grant credit to seniors who work at least 30 hours a week in manufacturing, construction, or other fields that provide verifiable job training.
