Last night, Sentimental Cinema 2 filled the Sand du Plessis Theatre — not just with music, but with people, memories, emotion, and a kind of warmth we will never forget.

Thank you to every person who bought a ticket, came to the dress rehearsal, shared our posts, invited friends, supported a learner, encouraged a musician, or helped us get to this moment. You made this possible.

Thank you to our orchestra members, guest musicians, school choirs, conductors, teachers, parents, volunteers, PACOFS, and everyone behind the scenes who gave their time, energy and heart to this production.

And to our audience — thank you for listening so beautifully. Thank you for allowing the music to mean something. Thank you for going on this nostalgic journey with us.

This concert reminded us why we do what we do.

Tonight, Sentimental Cinema 2 comes to life in the Sand du Plessis Theatre.

For The Rhapsody Orchestra, this is more than just another concert. It is our first performance in the Sand du Plessis Theatre, a sold-out evening, a stage shared with wonderful young voices and guest musicians, and a programme filled with music from films that so many of us carry in our memories.

In just two days, Sentimental Cinema 2 will fill the Sand du Plessis Theatre with the music from films that have lived in our hearts for years.

The orchestra, the choirs, the guest musicians, the memories, the melodies — it is all starting to come together, and we cannot wait to share it with you.

The main concert is sold out, and we are so grateful for the incredible support. If you were not able to get tickets, there is still a small opportunity to experience the music at our dress rehearsal.
Please remember: it is a rehearsal, not a formal concert, so there may be stops and adjustments, but it offers a special behind-the-scenes glimpse of the music just before it fully comes to life.

Last night we had our first rehearsal for concert week and… wow. 🥹🎬🎶

There is always a moment where a concert suddenly starts to feel real — when the music fills the room, when familiar themes begin to take shape, and when everyone remembers why we have been working so hard.

After last night, we can honestly say: we are so excited to share Sentimental Cinema 2 with you.

The main concert is sold out, and we are deeply grateful. But if you missed out on tickets, we have opened the dress rehearsal. It is not a formal concert — it is still part of the rehearsal process, with possible stops, adjustments, and behind-the-scenes moments — but it is a beautiful chance to experience the music before concert night.

This concert has become something bigger than we imagined.
A community orchestra, young local voices, guest musicians and a sold out theatre.

Because many people were not able to get tickets for Sentimental Cinema 2, we have opened tickets to the dress rehearsal.
It will still be a rehearsal, with all the little pauses and adjustments that come with preparing a big performance, but it will also be a chance to sit in the theatre and witness a community bringing something beautiful to life together.

Some music only needs a few seconds to take you back.
A childhood film, a family memory, a scene you never forgot, a melody that somehow still knows where to find your heart. That is the heart of Sentimental Cinema 2.
Although the main concert is sold out, we have opened the dress rehearsal for those who would still like to experience this music live.
It will still be a rehearsal, there may be stops, small adjustments, and moments where the final details are still being shaped, but the music will be there, the memories will be there and we would be happy to share that with you.

There is something special about seeing a concert before it becomes the concert. 🎬🎶
A dress rehearsal is where the final pieces come together. The orchestra listens differently, the choirs find their places, we shape the last details.
Everyone is close enough to the performance to feel the excitement, but still inside the process.
You may hear a moment repeated. You may see a small adjustment being made. You may notice how the sound is shaped, how the balance is refined, how the music slowly settles into the theatre.
For Sentimental Cinema 2, the dress rehearsal is a chance to experience the music in a more intimate, behind-the-scenes way!

Karen Junqueira en Anton Esterhuyse bied op Sondag, 30 Augustus, om 15:30 ‘n konsert van oorspronklike komposisies aan.

Afgesien van drie werke wat by Junqueira se debuutkonsert in September 2025 aangebied is, sal haar nuutste komposisie, Wiegelied vir Lana en Leandro, gehoor kan word.

Anton Esterhuyse is Junqueira se gaskunstenaar by die konsert van 30 Augustus en bied ‘n verskeidenheid van musiek om te geniet, aan. Een van sy koorwerke gaan deur die bekende Eunice Vitae Cantamuskoor, wat vanjaar tweede plek in die Nasionale Applouskompetisie behaal het, gesing word. Die dirigent is Retha Visser. Die Unimus-orkes gaan Esterhuyse se talent met orkesverwerkings ten toon stel en ‘n werk vir orrel, gekomponeer deur Junqueira, sal verdere verskeidenheid aan die aand verleen. Die aand sluit af met 'n werk vir fluit en klavier deur Esterhuyse.

We have received an overwhelming amout of request redarding more tickets and because of that, we have decided to open our dress rehearsal.

It will still be a rehearsal, not a formal concert. There may be stops, adjustments, repeated moments, and all the little behind-the-scenes things that happen before a performance is ready. But in its own way, that can be something quite special — a chance to sit quietly in the theatre while the final pieces come together.

For those who missed the opportunity to attend the main performance, this is an invitation to still experience the music with us!
