Today, our team was on the ground at Mintek SCi 2026 in Randburg, for the Main Symposium under the theme "The Next Frontier: Emerging Scientists Driving Change."

From keynote addresses to parallel sessions on Critical Minerals, Energy, Emerging Technologies and Sustainability & Circular Economy, the day was packed with sharp insights, graduate hackathon pitches and some great conversations on the exhibition floor.

It was energising to connect with emerging researchers, academics and industry leaders all working toward the same goal: turning bold ideas into real impact for the minerals and metallurgical sector.

The primary strategic conclusion from our industry analysis is that current transformation delivery models are operating in reverse. Typically, the industry provides training and certification with the hope that commercial markets will develop afterwards.

We recommend reversing this sequence: first, analyse forward procurement maps to identify the commodities that host communities can supply within eighteen months. Next, commit to contract volumes and build targeted technical and financial capabilities based on actual commercial requirements.

[RECAP] As Heritage Month comes to an end, on September 25th, we came together to celebrate Heritage Day at SSC Group, embracing the rich tapestry of our diverse backgrounds. Our celebration highlighted the unique traditions, delicious foods, and vibrant stories that represent each of us.

Every participant in this sequence behaves rationally: facilitators deliver repeatable programs, corporations secure compliance points, but local economic development remains minimal.
