⚡ IS YOUR ELECTRIC FENCE WORKING PROPERLY?

An electric fence is an important part of your property’s perimeter security—but it can only protect you when it is properly maintained and fully operational.

Use these simple checks to help identify possible problems:

1️⃣ Check the energiser indicators
Make sure the energiser is switched on and that its status lights do not indicate a fault, low voltage or loss of power.

2️⃣ Keep the fence clear
Trim trees, shrubs and other vegetation that may touch the wires and cause interference or false alarms.

3️⃣ Inspect the wires and insulators
From a safe distance, look for loose, broken or sagging wires, damaged insulators and signs that the fence has been tampered with.

4️⃣ Test the alarm function
Arrange regular testing to ensure that cutting, shorting or interfering with the fence activates the alarm and sends the correct signal.

5️⃣ Check the backup battery
The energiser should continue working during a power failure. Have the battery tested regularly and replace it when necessary.

6️⃣ Schedule professional maintenance
Only a qualified electric-fence technician should repair or test live components. Never touch the wires or attempt repairs yourself.

Regular maintenance can help identify faults before criminals exploit them. If you notice repeated activations, warning lights or unusual behaviour, contact Copwatch for assistance.

🏡 GOING AWAY? KEEP YOUR HOME PROTECTED

Before leaving for your holiday, take a few simple precautions to help keep your property secure.

1️⃣ Test your security systems
Make sure your alarm, outdoor beams, electric fence, CCTV cameras and backup batteries are working correctly.

2️⃣ Avoid obvious signs that nobody is home
Arrange for someone you trust to collect post, move bins and switch lights on and off. Timers or smart lighting can also help create the appearance that the property is occupied.

3️⃣ Secure every access point
Lock all doors, windows, gates and garages. Store spare keys securely and never leave them in predictable hiding places.

4️⃣ Inform Copwatch
Let our control room know that you will be away and ensure that your contact details and emergency keyholder information are up to date. Where possible, provide response officers with reliable property access through a secure lockbox or gate-access system.

5️⃣ Keep your travel plans private
Avoid sharing your departure dates, location or holiday photographs publicly while you are away. Save the posts for when you return.

A few checks before leaving can make a meaningful difference to your property’s security.

🛍️ SHOPPING CENTRE & MALL SAFETY

A busy shopping trip can quickly become an opportunity for criminals. Stay alert and follow these eight practical safety tips:

1️⃣ Stay aware of your surroundings, especially in entrances, exits and parking areas. Avoid being distracted by your phone or earphones.

2️⃣ Travel in groups where possible, particularly at night or in quiet, poorly lit areas.

3️⃣ Keep cellphones, jewellery, cash and other valuables out of sight. Keep bags securely closed and close to your body.

4️⃣ Walk confidently and with purpose. Keep your head up and regularly observe the people and activity around you.

5️⃣ Trust your instincts. If someone or something makes you uncomfortable, move to a busy, well-lit area and approach security personnel.

6️⃣ Be especially vigilant in parking areas. Have your keys ready, check your surroundings and lock your doors immediately after entering your vehicle.

7️⃣ Use well-lit, populated routes and avoid isolated shortcuts. Vary routes you travel regularly and let someone you trust know where you are going.

8️⃣ Know how to get help quickly. Save important emergency and security numbers, identify nearby security points and share your location when travelling alone.

Remain alert, take precautions and report suspicious activity immediately.
