Our Under Canvas Hideaways are each tucked into their own private corner of the valley. No neighbours. Coffee on the wrap-around deck, a three-course dinner at the Old Mill House, then back to the tub to count stars…

The Seasons in the Cederberg

Summer is for early walks, swimming and long evenings outside. Autumn is made for exploring. Winter brings rain, cooler hiking conditions and extraordinary night skies, while spring puts the region’s remarkable plant life on display.

But whichever season you choose, allow yourself enough time to slow down.

A Tribute to Gladson Kaderu: The Face of Mount Ceder

Some people work at a place. Others become part of its story.

Gladson Kaderu came to Mount Ceder in September 2009 and, for many of our guests, became the face of the place. As he begins a new chapter with his family, the Vorster family and his colleagues have written a tribute to what he gave this farm.

“I’ve had the privilege of knowing Gladson for 30 years,” says Karen Vorster. “He was never just a colleague, he was a dear friend and very much the face of Mount Ceder.”

If you’ve stayed with us, chances are he’s part of your memory of the Cederberg.

Read the full tribute, via our latest blog. Link in Bio.

Heritage Day is about the people who came before us, and the ones spending time with us now.

Whatever your family’s traditions look like, whether that’s a braai, a recipe passed down three generations, or a story your gran tells every year that gets a little bigger each time, today is for sharing them.

From all of us at Mount Ceder, we wish you and your loved ones a beautiful Heritage Day. 🇿🇦

There’s no single best time to visit the Cederberg, but there are certainly better times for some things than others. Summer is hot and dry, winter brings rain and cold nights, and then spring arrives with the flowers. Autumn sits somewhere between the two.

The Cederberg Wilderness Area is a scenically beautiful and rugged region, managed by CapeNature and forming part of the Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site. There are hiking trails, rock formations, waterfalls and mountain pools to explore, but when you visit can make quite a difference to what you’ll experience.

Wildflower season doesn’t run on a calendar. It runs on rain, temperature, and exactly where you’re standing in the Cederberg that week.

In a good season, the fynbos around Citrusdal starts turning from about mid-July into early September. Other pockets of the region flower on their own schedule entirely.

Mount Ceder sits right in the middle of it all. Routes from here lead out to the Biedouw Valley, one of the best-known flower-viewing areas around, with plenty more to find in the valleys closer to home.

Bring a camera. Leave the exact dates to the rain.
