The creative industry didn't become what it is by standing still. It was shaped by people who questioned the norm, changed the conversation and redefined what creativity could be.

This South African Women’s Day, we’re celebrating some of the remarkable women whose ideas continue to shape advertising, marketing and design – while celebrating the women at Reload carrying that legacy forward.

This tribute was researched and compiled using publicly available sources, which are credited throughout. Cover artwork featured by Karin Luts 🎨

Sending warm wishes from the Southern Hemisphere... because that's all we've got 🥲

If you're still judging your content by likes and comments alone, you're only seeing the tip of the iceberg 👀

The loud stuff lives above the surface. The valuable stuff tends to happen behind the scenes: Saves, Shares, Dwell time, Video views, Link clicks, and Profile visits. These interactions rarely come with a notification, but often tell you far more about whether someone found your content genuinely useful.

Part of the reason is that most people aren't publicly engaging. The old 90-9-1 rule still largely holds true: 1% create, 9% visibly engage, and 90% quietly consume.

So what should you actually be looking at?
📥 Lots of saves → Your audience thinks it's worth coming back to
⏱️ High dwell time → People are actually reading instead of scrolling past
👀 Profile visits → Your content sparked curiosity

So next time a post doesn't rack up hundreds of likes, don't write it off just yet – it might just be doing its best work in silence 🤫

This week's lesson: if Bafana can silence the doubters, so can your unhinged idea 😌🇿🇦

If Gen Z is spending less time online, what does that mean for brands competing for their attention? 👀

Many younger consumers are actively distancing themselves from constant connectivity and seeking more intentional ways to spend their time, creating an interesting shift for us as marketers.

In response to this, we're seeing renewed interest in real-world experiences, from pop-ups to campaigns that prioritise participation over impressions. In a world saturated with digital content, physical experiences can offer something a feed often can't: presence, participation and genuine connection.

How have you noticed brands adapting as more consumers look to unplug? 🔌

For Pride Month, we’re reflecting on one of the most powerful examples of visual storytelling: the Pride flag. A reminder that a symbol doesn’t lose its power because it changes. Sometimes, change is exactly what allows it to keep doing its job.

🌈 1978 – The original Pride flag was created by artist Gilbert Baker as a symbol of visibility, identity and belonging. Eight colours, each carrying meaning.

✂️ Around 1979 – The design evolved into the six-stripe version most people recognise today. Streamlined for practical print purposes, but still powerful.

🏳️‍🌈 2018 – The Progress Pride flag: Daniel Quasar added the chevron to better represent trans communities, LGBTQ+ people of colour, and those lost to HIV/AIDS.

⚧️ 2021 – Valentino Vecchietti expanded the design again, adding intersex visibility into the symbol.

Across decades, the flag has changed – not because it needed fixing, but because great design evolves alongside the world it exists in and the people it represents.

The mark of a great digital marketing team? When someone can disappear for two weeks while everything continues exactly as planned 😌

We are proof that “😂” and “💀” can coexist peacefully.
