What an incredible 2 days at Van Kervel School! 🌟

Community Wellness Project just wrapped up presenting our EmpowerED program to 6 classes of 2nd year learners over the past two days at Van Kervel School!

EmpowerED is all about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) - giving our young people accurate information, confidence, and the skills to make informed decisions about their lives and futures.

Over the two days we covered:

Healthy Relationships & Making Healthy Choices
Consent, Boundaries & Bodily Autonomy
Self-Esteem, Self-Worth & Identity
Effective Communication & Peer Pressure
Puberty, Body Changes & Personal Hygiene
Gender Equality & Respect
Sexual Health
Contraception & Access to Health Services
Understanding Rights, Responsibilities & Where to Get Help

A huge thank you to the principal, educators, and especially the learners of Van Kervel for your energy, openness, and honest conversations. Your engagement was amazing!

This is what prevention and empowerment looks like.

Community Wellness Project successfully completed the Healthy LifeSTYLES Program with the final two Grade 8 classes at Parkdene Secondary School on Tuesday, 26 May and Thursday, 28 May.

During these sessions, learners were empowered through important discussions on prevention and awareness of HIV, TB and STI’s, while also exploring the impact that our choices can have on our futures. We spoke about the importance of positive role models and how factors such as Society, Boredom, Rebelliousness, Low Self-Esteem, Difficult Circumstances and Peer Pressure can influence the decisions young people make every day.

The learners also participated in meaningful conversations about Healthy Relationships, what Healthy Choices look like, and the importance of delaying sexual debut for as long as possible or until marriage.

It was encouraging to see learners actively engaging throughout the program, asking questions and sharing their thoughts openly. One learner was especially brave enough to share with us what the program meant to him personally and how it encouraged him to think differently about his future and the choices he makes. Moments like these remind us why these programs are so important in our schools and communities.

We would like to thank Parkdene Secondary School, the educators and all the learners for their warm welcome, participation and openness throughout the sessions. Together, we continue working towards healthier, stronger and more empowered communities.
