September’s new arrivals: Dave Eggers, John Boyne, Valérie Perrin and Emily St John Mandel.
Perfect weekend company. And causing havoc with our TBR pile ☺️

September is a big month for new releases. After reading Paradiso 17 by Hannah Lillith Assadi, John’s next TBRs feature Sebastian Faulks and Kate Atkinson.
Faulks’ Farewell to Eden is set in the same time-frame as Assadi’s protagonist’s Palestine, moving between that country and post-war Britain.
Covering a similar era, Atkinson’s Our Noble Selves takes place in London in 1951 during the Festival of Britain.
The fine threads of place and time that connect one book to another.

What a privilege to have legendary SA photographers and Hermanus locals Roger de la Harpe and Pat de la Harpe in the shop.
Their new book The African Lion is a quietly magnificent tribute to Panthera leo; a must for anyone who’s ever felt a connection to southern African wildlife.
Published by Flyleaf Publishing & Distribution expect outstanding imagery and remarkable insights into this apex predator, currently listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
With linen quarter-binding and gilt accents, this beautiful book is a heart-singing thing. Above all though, it’s about why lion conservation matters.

What draws us back to a favourite book? Sometimes it’s the entire story, sometimes a few tender lines that resonate and linger.
by features some fabulous titles, including Fay Weldon’s Down Among the Women.
Their Contemporary Classics series includes Joyce Cary’s trilogy written in the 1940s.
Cary was a contemporary of Graham Greene, and together with Weldon, is one of several authors that John returns to.

What a treat to have Tony Park in the shop for a book signing.
King of Beasts is Tony’s 24th novel - a high-octane thriller set between the Ukraine and the wilds of SA, featuring the infamous former mercenary Sonja Kurtz..
Tony’s national book tour has seen him criss-crossing South Africa in his trusty Landy, via KZN snowfalls all the way to Hermanus. We wish him all the very best with the rest of his travels 🇿🇦📚
