A few more photos from how our Grand Traverse is going so far

Not a bad way to start day three of our Drakensberg Grand Traverse 😎
Waking up somewhere high on the escarpment, packing up camp and getting straight back into views like this certainly makes the tired legs a little easier to ignore 😮💨
We’ve already covered roughly 60kms over the first two days, the group is moving incredibly well and the weather has been playing along nicely so far.
Still plenty of kilometres ahead of us, plenty more mountains to cross and probably several increasingly creative ways to answer the question “how much further?”
But for now, day three is off to a pretty damn good start.
This is what the Grand Traverse is all about.

We’re currently two days into our Drakensberg Grand Traverse, and so far the mountains have been treating us pretty damn well 😮💨
The weather has played along, the group is looking strong and we’ve already covered roughly 50km as we make our way across the Drakensberg escarpment.
There’s still a very long way to go, plenty more climbing to come and undoubtedly a few moments where everyone will question why walking across an entire mountain range sounded like a sensible holiday ⛰️
But for now, spirits are high, the legs are cooperating and the views have been ridiculous.
Two days down. A whole lot of Drakensberg still ahead of us.

A few photos from a recent five day adventure through the Ch*****ne region of the Drakensberg.
Five days gives you plenty of time to properly disappear into the mountains. No rushing back to the car, no worrying about what’s happening outside the Berg just waking up each morning, packing the bags and seeing where your legs are taking you next 🥾
We had a bit of everything on this one. Massive valleys, lower Berg campsites completely surrounded by mountains, long climbs, time spent high on the escarpment and some seriously ridiculous views along the way 😮💨
Of course, five days also means five days of carrying a backpack, questionable amounts of uphill and enough time for the entire group to stop believing the guide whenever the words “almost there” are mentioned😂
But that’s all part of it.
There’s something pretty special about spending this much uninterrupted time in the Drakensberg, and the Ch*****ne region certainly isn’t a bad place to do it.
Keith Bush Camp in the Ch*****ne Valley has to be one of the better lower Berg campsites in the Drakensberg ⛰️
Tucked away in the valley and completely surrounded by mountains it’s one of those places where you arrive, drop the packs and immediately decide you could quite happily stay there for considerably longer than planned.
You don’t always need to be camping above 3,000m to get ridiculous views in the Drakensberg. Down here you’re surrounded by towering peaks, green valleys and that slightly unfair feeling of being completely dwarfed by the landscape around you 😮💨
Add a few tents, some good company, dinner on the stove and the mandatory post hike coffee, and you’ve got a pretty decent home for the night.
No reception. No neighbours. Mountains in basically every direction.
Not a bad little campsite.

Climbing a Via Ferrata. Because apparently walking up mountains wasn’t quite enough entertainment for us.
Part hiking, part climbing and part questioning whether you really needed to look down, a Via Ferrata is one of our favourite ways to spend a day in the Drakensberg 😮💨
You’ll make your way up the rock face while clipped into a fixed safety system, tackling exposed sections and getting some seriously ridiculous views along the way. You don’t need to be an experienced rock climber either, making it a pretty epic introduction to something a little more adventurous ⛰️
We run our Via Ferrata trips on request, so grab a few friends, pick a date and come spend the day hanging off the side of a mountain with us.
We’ll take care of the technical equipment, permits and logistics. You just need to bring a decent relationship with heights and a willingness to make some questionable weekend decisions.
