Your managers and supervisors make workplace decisions every day, but when those decisions are governed by the Plastics Industry Main Collective Agreement (PIMCA), knowing how to apply the agreement correctly matters.
That’s where PCASA can help.
Our upcoming online PIMCA Training is designed to give business owners, HR teams, managers and supervisors a clearer, practical understanding of the agreement and how it applies in the workplace.
If your management team has never received formal PIMCA training, now is a great time to get everyone on the same page.

You’ve followed your disciplinary process and issued a written warning, but the employee refuses to sign.
What now?
Firstly, don’t panic. Refusing to sign does not automatically make the warning invalid. The employee’s signature is generally an acknowledgement that they received and understood the warning, not necessarily that they agree with it.
If the employee refuses to sign, the employer should record the refusal and have a manager sign as a witness confirm that the warning was issued to the employee. A copy should still be provided to the employee and the appropriate records retained.
Most importantly, don’t turn the refusal to sign into an unnecessary confrontation. The focus should remain on whether the disciplinary process was fair, the employee had an opportunity to respond, and the warning was properly communicated.
It sounds simple, but small procedural mistakes can create much bigger problems later.
Not sure whether you’re handling a disciplinary matter correctly? Speak to PCASA before taking the next step.
PCASA is here to help our members navigate workplace and labour relations matters with greater confidence.

This Heritage Day, we celebrate the people, skills and diverse cultures that make South Africa extraordinary.
Across our plastics converting industry, people from different backgrounds work side by side – sharing knowledge, developing skills, solving problems and producing products that form part of everyday South African life.
It’s our diversity that brings different ideas to the table, our people who keep our industry moving, and our shared determination that helps us build for the future.
From everyone at PCASA, we wish our members, their teams and all South Africans a happy Heritage Day!
Here’s to celebrating who we are and what we can achieve together.

For plastics converters, workplace safety is critical. But what happens when an employee tests positive for alcohol under a zero-tolerance policy?
A recent Labour Court decision provides an important reminder for employers: a positive alcohol test does not automatically make dismissal fair.
In the case, an employee tested positive on a breathalyser, but there was no evidence that he was impaired. Questions were also raised about the calibration of the breathalyser and the absence of confirmatory testing.
The Court upheld the finding that the dismissal was unfair.
What does this mean for plastics businesses?
You can have a strict zero-tolerance alcohol policy, particularly where employees work with machinery or in safety-sensitive environments. However, each incident still needs to be handled fairly and on its individual facts. Reliable testing, proper procedures and appropriate evidence matter.
For business owners and HR managers, the takeaway is simple: having a policy is important. Applying it correctly is just as important.
PCASA helps keep plastics converters informed about workplace and labour matters that can affect their businesses.

PCASA has two specialist online training sessions coming up this October, and if your management team has not yet had formal training on either of these critical areas, now is the time to change that.
First up, PIMCA Training on 7 October. The Plastics Industry Main Collective Agreement governs every wage decision, every condition of employment, and every dispute resolution process in your business. Your team applies it daily — but are they applying it correctly?
Then on 16 October, Discipline in the Workplace and Initiator Training. One procedural error in a disciplinary hearing can undo an otherwise airtight case. This session gives your supervisors and managers the practical skills and legal understanding to get it right every single time.
Both sessions are delivered by admitted attorneys, designed exclusively for the plastics converting industry, and packed into a focused half-day that your team can attend without leaving the office.

The more plastics converting businesses that stand behind PCASA, the louder your voice becomes at the bargaining table, and right now, that voice has never mattered more.
Every PCASA member adds to the collective weight we carry into the Plastics Negotiating Forum at the MEIBC. This is not just about numbers, it is about voting power, bargaining strength, and the ability to secure outcomes that protect your wages, your terms and conditions, and your operational stability for years at a time.
The three-year settlement agreement currently protecting your business until June 2028 was secured because PCASA walked into those negotiations representing a significant and growing membership base. The strength of the next agreement in 2028 depends on exactly the same thing.
If you are already a PCASA member, the single most powerful thing you can do right now is encourage your industry peers to join. And if you are not yet a member, every month without PCASA representation is a month your business is not contributing to, or benefiting from, the collective strength of our industry.
Your membership is not just about your business. It is about the future of the entire plastics converting industry in South Africa

When you’re running a plastics business, there are issues that affect more than just your company. They affect the plastics industry as a whole.
That’s why representation matters.
PCASA gives plastics converters a collective voice, representing the interests of the plastic industry in important discussions and negotiations that can impact businesses across South Africa.
By working together, PCASA helps ensure that the real challenges, concerns and needs of plastics converters are heard.
For individual businesses, it can be difficult to influence industry-wide decisions in the plastic converters industry on your own. Through PCASA, members have a stronger voice and a platform to engage on matters affecting the plastics converting sector.
PCASA is more than an association. We’re here to represent your interests and help strengthen the plastic converter industry we all depend on.
If you’re a plastics converter, make sure your voice is part of the conversation.

Managing discipline in the plastics converting industry is complex, high-stakes, and unforgiving of procedural errors. One misstep in a hearing, one inconsistently applied policy, one untrained supervisor in the chair, and a case your business should have won becomes a costly dispute at the MEIBC. This is the reality PCASA membership is built to change.
As a PCASA member, your supervisors and HR team have access to practical, industry-specific training in Managing Discipline in the Workplace, delivered by admitted attorneys who understand exactly what is at stake when a disciplinary process goes wrong.
This is just one of the many ways PCASA supports its members, not only when things go wrong, but long before they ever get there.
As the largest plastics converting employers organisation in South Africa, PCASA provides members with sharp, focused labour law insight, practical compliance training, and real-world guidance built exclusively around the needs of businesses that manufacture and convert plastic.
This is what PCASA membership delivers!

✨ PCASA Women's Empowerment Day 2026 ✨
What a morning! On 27 August, close to 70 women from across the plastics industry came together for a day built on one simple idea: we rise by lifting each other up.
Our CEO, Natalie van Vreden, opened the day by sharing why PCASA is investing in women, and why empowering and supporting one another matters more than ever.
From there, three incredible women took the stage:
🎤 Veronique Stanley (PIMMS Group) on being taken seriously in a male-dominated industry and finding your authentic leadership voice.
🎤 Anele Mkwanazi (Enviro Loo) on moving from competition to collaboration – mentoring, not judging, and celebrating each other's wins.
🎤 Maggie Infante (Infinite Industries) on being "CEO at Home, CEO at Work" – recognising the leadership we practise every day, long before we get the title.
The morning closed with our Wall of Inspiration, where attendees left their own words of encouragement for our future industry women trailblazers. 💛
Thank you to every speaker, every attendee, and everyone who made this day one to remember!
