Today marks 50 years since the Soweto Uprising of 16 June 1976.

Thousands of students stood up against an unjust education system and paid a heavy price in the fight for dignity, equality, and opportunity.

As we commemorate their courage, we are reminded that education remains one of the most powerful tools for changing lives.

The challenges facing learners today may be different, but the goal remains the same: ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

To the youth of 1976 thank you for your courage.

To the youth of today your future is worth investing in.

Homeostasis is your body’s ability to maintain a stable internal environment, even when conditions around you change. It helps regulate body temperature, water balance, blood glucose levels, and many other important functions.

How to actually study after school. 📚

Not the version where you sit at a desk for 3 hours staring at a textbook.

The version that works:

1. Give yourself 30 minutes to decompress first.
Eat. Rest. Let your brain switch gears. Forcing focus right after school rarely works.

2. Pick ONE topic. Not five.
Trying to cover everything means covering nothing. One topic done properly beats five topics skimmed.

3. Don’t re-read. Do questions.
Re-reading feels productive. It isn’t. Your brain learns by retrieving not recognising.

4. 45 minutes on. 15 minutes off.
Your concentration has a limit. Work with it, not against it.

5. End with something you understood.
Not something you’re still confused about. Finishing on a win keeps you coming back tomorrow.

That’s it. No 6-hour sessions. No all-nighters. Just consistency every day after school.
