💬Myth Busting Monday💥

Fun Fact Friday 🤓

You don't need to prove you're "ready" for a voice. AAC creates readiness.

You don't learn to ride a bike before you can get a bike. You get a bike to learn to ride the bike.

We use non-speaking because we can't assume or predict when someone is going to speak. Nonspeaking focuses on speech only and implies that a person does not use spoken words from their mouth. They have words but are not saying them using speech.

Nonverbal can be misleading into thinking a person does not have any words and therefore unable to communicate. Nonspeaking people can communicate in other ways other than speech. Speech is not the only form of communication, it's one of the many way to communicate. Non speaking focuses on speech and not language.

We don't wait for a child to fail at speaking first before we give them a way to communicate.

Communication can't wait.

Would you wait to give glasses to a child who can't see clearly?
