Ten years ago today, avery special litter was botn for Karoskloof Rhodesian Ridgebacks
In 2016, I also celebrated on of my great passions - mountain climbing - when I set of for the Drakensberge with my matric class of that year. My 21st celebration as team leader or organizer!

To celebrate this occasion this litter was named after the 7 highest peaks of the world for the 7 boys and the 2 girls were names after SA mountains.

So, happy birthday Karoskloof SP Everest, SP Kilimanjaro, SP Carstentz and SP Maluti.

Heritage Day on 24 September recognises and celebrates the cultural wealth of our nation.
South Africa’s 8 national symbols, which bind us together, are:
The National Flag, National Anthem, National Coat of Arms, National Animal (Springbok), National Bird (Blue Crane), National Fish (Galjoen), National Flower (King Protea), National Tree (Real Yellowwood) and …

then we have our National Dog, the Rhodesian Ridgeback!

The Rhodesian Ridgeback was originally bred by early European colonists crossing their imported hounds with the ridged hunting dogs of the indigenous Khoikoi people.

KUSA approved the breed standard in 1927.

Meet Billy, the Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy who, at just five months old, is already a legend in the Plettenberg Bay horse community.

Billy walks the course with the riders before the competition, she follows every jump with interest and she thinks every chestnut is just is bigger version of a Ridgeback🤣

The moment you think the SARRC’s championship show on 15 August 2026 was just about Rhodesian Ridgebacks, you realise it was about people too - people who share the same passion and love for the breed and people who have built friendships over time or connected across continents in one way or another

It was an absolute privilege for me to meet our judge, John Sigve Berg, for the first time after the show. John was a Commander in the Royal Norwegian Navy before his retirement. He bred and owned several international and multiple national champions with “one of the best being CH Ukukhanya Scout the Red Barron.” (sire: CH & CH (USA) Karoskloof Bayezana Naka x dam: CH Nomvuyo Tikkun)

Seeing one of the true legends of the Rhodesian Ridgeback after so many years was good for the soul.
Scotty Stewart was a former chairman of the SARRC and founder of the Rhodesian Ridgeback International Foundation.
At 90 years old, you continue to inspire us, Scotty!

Thank you Helen Thrush for the use of photos

Following the SARRC’s request for entries for the annual championship show on 15 August 2026, I approached Stephen Liasides and his family to give Karoskloof Zandi’s Tex (aka Miley) a chance.

Everyone in the dog show world known that it is a huge risk. It is all well and good to show support, but the question is how one’s beloved pet will react to this new environment.

Miley didn’t disappoint us. She carried herself with the utmost ease and confidence among everyone and especially other dogs.

Her 2nd place in the Open Bitch Class was just a bonus on a very successful outing for her and her family.

Thank you Stephen and family for giving Miley a chance in the show ring.

Miley’s participation contributed to a successful show and the SARRC appreciates her entry!

The friendship, camaraderie and healthy competition surrounding the SARRC’s annual championship show on 15 August 2026 made me reflect on why I started showing in the first place!
